So I had very mixed reviews about Dexter and Stanley

So how do you feel about Toby?

I'm really struggling to find any others my OH will even consider

Naming a baby is so hard 😢

I adore Stanley, my top boy name ever. Wee Stan! Love it. Not keen on Dexter personally. I agree it’s stressful deciding, if you have time yes take a break and come back. But in RL I’d never tell people names we were considering because people are brutal - MN is the same/worse so not best place to sort out your inner dilemmas on this!!

jellybe · 07/02/2021 20:35

Dexter
Toby
Stanley

Best to worst. But, at the end of the day what you like is all that matters. We never discussed names with anyone other than each other when picking names.

JudgeMeNot · 07/02/2021 13:48

Forget what others think. What's right for you is important. All great names

Twisique · 07/02/2021 13:04

I always think of Toby in the Hugh, Guy, Hugo category of names, Stanley with Winston and Wilf, and Dexter with Conrad and Mason. Different types of name.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/02/2021 12:34

Toby is lovely.

Dexter is ok, can’t stand Stanley.

Ellmau · 07/02/2021 12:28

Toby is very nice.

Onlinedilema · 07/02/2021 11:22

Toby is the nicest of the 3.

TenThousandSpoons · 06/02/2021 11:09

I like all three. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.
Some other names you might like with a similar feel:
Arthur, Harry, Edward

2020Peepshow · 06/02/2021 10:24

Good luck!

For what it’s worth I like Toby as a name!

partyatthepalace · 05/02/2021 21:19

Hate Toby sorry, I have a very dear friend Toby but it’s still wet. I do like Tobias.

I like Stanley. I don’t hate Dexter but I think it’s weird as a first name.

Um... Barnaby, Diggory, Rory??

FoxInSocks2 · 05/02/2021 18:20

Also, none of these names are super edgy or should draw any criticism in real life. They work for a baby and an adult, plus give nick names. If you like them don't worry about others opinions.

FoxInSocks2 · 05/02/2021 18:19

I'm not keen on Toby but I love Stanley. It is a very love/hate name though but I like it because it isn't super common. I like Dexter despite the link with the TV show.

Fifthtimelucky · 05/02/2021 18:15

I much prefer Toby to Stanley and Dexter.

KirstenBlest · 05/02/2021 17:59

I don't see Toby as babyish because it makes me think of Sir Toby Belch, Toby Stephens, and the Tobys I know who are adults.

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/02/2021 15:59
@HenriettaHeffalump Im really going to try to be more laidback, Although my OH is so laid back nothing would get done if I was the same 😂😂 we've still got plenty of time (she says optimistically)
Grin I know what you mean! Ah things might change as time goes on.

Congratulations and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and picking the name SmileFlowers

Tuscadero · 05/02/2021 11:55

Dexter and Stanley are better than Toby. Toby is so babyish. And it reminds me of that bellend Toby Young.

Do you know what op? Chilling and not being able to plan for stuff is the hardest thing I have found to adjust to since becoming a parent! So if this is your first, I totally get why you want to be organised. With dc1, we had full names picked for either sex ages before she was born. Decided not to find out what we were having, but it did drive me absolutely crazy not knowing! Then she was born and I realised I couldn't plan a thing anymore Grin. I'm downright laid back these days!

May2021Mummy · 05/02/2021 11:36

@HenriettaHeffalump thank you I think we are going to wait until we meet him. He may look like none of them and we might think of something out of the blue that just seems right

I think I need to chill and stop trying to organise too much 😂😂

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/02/2021 11:22

You don't even need to decide before he arrives op. Some people don't decide until they have to register the name, which I think it at 5 weeks.

We named DS just after he was born. The staff who delivered him helped us choose and it was really special. I nearly named him after the anaesthetist Grin. But the surgeon (CS) convinced me to use a name from my home country as she was from the same one! It was lovely.

ElaineMarieBenes · 05/02/2021 11:18

I like Toby and also really Theo

Topseyt · 05/02/2021 11:14

I like both Toby and Dexter.

Go with what you want. If you like it use it. You'll never get everyone agreeing with you.

galaxy9 · 05/02/2021 10:45

Toby is quite a boring name. Dexter and Stanley have much more about them

May2021Mummy · 05/02/2021 10:23

Thanks everyone you've been really helpful

You're all right of course I think I need to just focus on which one we really like and not be swayed, not everyone is going to like the same names

Might just take a break from thinking about it for a while we still have time and I feel like I'll just end up settling if I rush it

anotherlongwalk · 05/02/2021 09:59

You'll always get mixed reviews so go with your heart and what you want.

But I like Toby! Grin
