Have loved this name for a long time but aware it’s become quite common! I don’t know the sex yet so considering this for a boy or girl. Would appreciate any honest advice!

"I would die for Riley." Grin
Inside Out
FWIW I cry EVERY single time I watch that film... I mean proper ugly cry. It's really weird because I'm sort of past the crying over Pixar films. My eldest was 1 when Finding Nemo was out in cinemas. You think I'd be done with it. But yeah... anyway.
I'm not mad keen on it, as a name (sorry... after all that).

Bagelsandbrie · 29/01/2021 17:21

Depends on the area of the UK I think. Where we are (Norfolk) it’s not chavvy or a naughty boy name at all. It’s quite popular but in the same way that George / Henry / Oscar / Charlie is here.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/01/2021 17:20

Chavvy. Parents let him do as he pleases and will rip the teachers head off for daring to discipline him. They wouldn't deny their child was naughty they just wouldnt give a shiny shit. Like it /admit it or not we all judge on names.
Obviously that's just my perception. I've never actually came across a Riley.

galaxy9 · 29/01/2021 17:13

Love it for a girl

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/01/2021 16:53

I'd probably name a girl Riley (I love the movie Inside Out, that's the girls name in it). I don't like it for a boy though.

ILoveAnOwl · 29/01/2021 16:49

I work at a school specifically for 'naughty boys'. We have a lot of Rileys. And Rylees, Righleighs, Ryleighs etc etc!

percheron67 · 29/01/2021 16:44

It is a surname. On the other hand, my friend's Jack Russell was named Riley,

Firebird83 · 29/01/2021 16:34

I agree that it’s very 2005.

Ithinkhedidit · 29/01/2021 16:29

I really like it! Goes to show how things vary by region - I've been teaching for 10 years and never come across a single Riley so had no idea about the naughty name thing. I think it works for a boy or a girl (as I mainly associate it with the girl in Inside Out).

HurricaneBitch · 29/01/2021 15:32

Surname and I rarely like the crossover.

blossomhillx · 29/01/2021 15:24

I like for a girl

RIPWalter · 29/01/2021 15:20

My DD is Ripley, as in the movie "Alien", this might be a possible alternative. From the ONS names list there are approx 20 babies registered with this name a year, mostly girls.

EileenGC · 29/01/2021 15:17

Love it for a girl!

XiCi · 29/01/2021 15:13

For a girl i like it, don't like it for a boy though

PotteringAlong · 29/01/2021 15:12

Girl but not a boy.

HerNameIsY0shimi · 29/01/2021 15:04

I like it for a girl, but not for a boy.

Cinderellashoes · 29/01/2021 15:01

The girl in Inside Out is Riley and she’s adorable. I think it’s lovely for her. But I do think it’s a naughty boys name too. Sorry Sad

MisgenderedSwan · 29/01/2021 14:59

Every boy Riley I've ever met has been the naughty kid. I like the name for a girl though!

BigMamaFratelli · 29/01/2021 14:58

Love it for a girl. But yeah, it's a naughty boy name

Beamur · 29/01/2021 14:56

I think it's cute.
The name of the kid in Inside Out! Girl.

HaggisBurger · 29/01/2021 14:56

To me it’s a dogs name 🤷🏻‍♀️

DaniX91 · 29/01/2021 14:55

@emmathedilemma

the class naughty boy (sorry!)
Same here sorry. Our Riley ended up being sent to a behavioural unit by the time he was in year 2. Obviously doesn't mean your Riley would be naughty but it's what I now associate the name with.
greenleaf5 · 29/01/2021 14:52

Naughty boy name 100%!! Sorry, OP.

elsaesmeralda · 29/01/2021 14:46

I like Riley for a girl

LouLikesLollies · 29/01/2021 14:46

Haha I’m going to be a first time mum and had no idea it’s a naughty boys name!!
