My name as a middle name...

ComeONBridget · 28/01/2021 19:34

I have quite a rare first name.

Would it be strange to use it as my little girls middle name?

I really like my name and would like to include it... thoughts? Too selfie?

I have an unusual middle name and it's also my DDs middle name. My DS has my husband's name as his middle name. I wouldn't hesitate to use the name if you want

Greenevalley · 08/02/2021 11:39

My ds has his ggd name as a middle name and dd has her gnan name as a middle name.

Both on my dh's side I've just realised.

Twizbe · 08/02/2021 11:36

@IHaveBrilloHair

I'm not a fan, mainly because if you have another then your first got the "special", name.
We had a boy and girl so it worked out with both our first names as middle names.

I didn't know what I was having both times so if DD had been a DS she would either have had my dad's name as a middle name or my middle name as a middle name (it's a gender neutral name) either way a special name from me.

DramaAlpaca · 01/02/2021 03:40

Forgot to say in my post a couple of days ago, my middle name is also my grandmother's middle name. I love that I have that connection to her.

Kanaloa · 01/02/2021 02:24

I think this is a lovely idea - I’m not keen on first names being after parents but I think it’s lovely as a middle name, and a lovely connection to share with your daughter.

MrsEricBana · 01/02/2021 01:19

We would have done this but my name is rubbish! DS does have DH first name as his middle name as it is a strong, classic name; same for DH & his father. I think it's lovely. My first name is my mother's middle name. If your name is nice then definitely do it.

Not a strange idea at all. Very commonly done, certainly in previous times if not so much now. And not 'selfie' at all - think of it as lovely family connections demonstrated through names.

Scarby9 · 01/02/2021 00:52

I have my mum's first name as my middle name. I like having the link.
My brother has our dad's middle name as his given name.

SEE123 · 01/02/2021 00:47

Go for it OP - I think it's a lovely!

MintyCedric · 01/02/2021 00:41

It's a lovely idea. Had we had a second daughter she would have been DD1s middle name/my first name as it was about the only combo we could agree on.

fireme · 01/02/2021 00:34

One of my daughters has my name as a middle name, I like my name and wanted to use it.

zigaziga · 31/01/2021 20:27

Someone I know has a boy and a girl and the boy had his father’s name as his middle .. the girl doesn’t have her mother’s. I think it’s a shame women don’t do this more really, since men do it.

calimommy · 30/01/2021 21:35

We always use a family name for the middle name. First two have grandfathers names and third guy has my husbands name. This is the first girl and unfortunately neither of the granny's have names we'd like to use and my husband suggested using my name. It felt v bizarre at first but it's so common place for men that I got over it quickly. No one knows the name choice yet so I'm sure my mother has notions of her name but.... tough! 😂 I'm the one who does all the work for these children, why not use my name!

CrustyCrabbe · 30/01/2021 20:21

^^has my middle name as her middle name, I should have said

CrustyCrabbe · 30/01/2021 20:21

@ame88

I think it's lovely. I really love my middle name so when I have a little girl she will also have this middle name!
DD has my middle name! It fit with hers and honours my mum, who hates her own name but loves the middle name she chose me (my first name is OK but a bit 80s and it wouldn’t go with DDs name anyway). Weirdly MIL would have also used it had she had a daughter so she liked it too.

DS has DH’s middle name - it’s a family name we both loved.

MBb217 · 30/01/2021 20:16

I like this idea!

Twizbe · 30/01/2021 17:54

I have my mum's name as my middle name, my daughter has my name as her middle name.

Go ahead and name after yourself

DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2021 03:17

Lovely idea. I didn't have a girl, but if I had her middle name would've been the Irish version of my name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/01/2021 23:35

It's completely fine - in fact I'd even say it's commonplace. Loads of people I know have either their Parent or Grandparent's name for a middle name (I think traditionally that's what middle names were for - to honour relatives or close friends/godparents).

AlwaysLatte · 28/01/2021 23:29

I think it's fine! My mum had her Dad's first name and her sister had their mum's first name. My son has my husband's first name as a middle name. And my other son's first name is his other grandmother's first name. Never any confusion except with my mum when they were young.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 28/01/2021 23:19

I have my mum's name as a middle name, she had her mum's name as her first name. DS has DH's name as his middle, but DH is known by his middle name, while he and his dad share a first name!

By which I mean, it's not too selfie at all. It is a lovely tradition. Just don't do the same first name but call him by his middle name thing as DH has, cos that's a nightmare.

ClementineFox · 28/01/2021 23:13

I’m named after my two great-grandmothers and I always loved the family connection. My DD’s middle name is my grandma’s name. If it’s a beautiful name then do it, she’ll love the connection to you.

emmie841 · 28/01/2021 21:34

I think it's a beautiful idea x

elfran · 28/01/2021 20:08

It's great! In fact I might do the opposite - my middle name is on our list for this baby. ☺️
