Do you ‘love’ your boys name?

LuckyFlash · 28/01/2021 15:51

Due a boy in ten weeks and super excited. Before we knew the sex we talked a lot about names and fixed on a girl name quite quickly and I absolutely loved it. I felt excited to use it and tell people.
Things got tricker when we found out he was a boy as I just find boys names so ‘blah’. It’s seems from this board that lots of people have also struggled with boys names. I want something that is not crazy or eyebrow raising but equally not too traditional and (in my opinion) boring. There are hundreds of girls names in this category but so few boys ones. When people ask for suggestions of this type of name the same ones are always suggested.
Anyway, we have picked a name and I do really like it, as does DH. We have been calling him by his name at home for weeks and have gotten used to it. I just can’t shake this feeling that I like it but don’t ‘love’ it.

Is this normal? Will I love it when he arrives and it become associated with my little boy? Or should I be rethinking?

Did you ‘love’ the name you picked or have picked for your boy?

Absolutely love my children’s names.

Don’t settle for something you don’t love.

SilverOtter · 10/07/2021 18:32

Yes, I love both my sons names! My first has a classic but very popular name, but it just suits him soooo perfectly. My second has a very unusual name and I love it. I've never met another one yet and he is 4Smile

minecraftSteve · 10/07/2021 18:28

My sons name is Casper and I love it so much. There are no other Caspers around that we know of and the name really suits him. Also get a lot of compliments on his name and never once has he been subjected to any ghost jokes.

marpelier · 10/07/2021 18:24

Have 4 boys and love all their names ( the only one I might change is the eldest as it is so common but I love them all and they really suit them if that makes sense : James, Lachlan, Rory and Archie ( youngest is years older than the Prince btw) . In response to your question OP the answer is RORY. . Everybody loves it ,I know there are variations in spelling like Ruairi, but in reality everyone is going to go with Rory. It has no bad connotations, is easy to spell and pronounce and means red king - what could be better,. Well known enough but has never hit the top 10.. Good luck with the birth.

Yes I do. I have 2 boys. With ds1 we found a name we both loved and it was much harder with ds2 as we didn’t agree on anything and went for a name we both didn’t love but didn’t mind. Quite quickly after ds2 was born I loved his name and still do because it is him. He’s 2 now and I adore his name just as much as ds1’s.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 04/02/2021 00:58

Like my two boys name and importantly luckily so do they

JudgeMeNot · 04/02/2021 00:31

My DC are in their twenties. Always loved my DS name but DD's name was a compromise. She suits her name now

BorderlineHappy · 03/02/2021 23:25

I have 5 boys and I still love their names

Ds1 I always had this name and when he was born it just suited him.
Ds2 is has the same name as an actor.Im not madly keen on the actor but I just loved the name.
DS3 he was the one that was nameless as the name I picked didn't suit him.Ansv1 name just kept coming to Mi Nd.So that's what he's called. Its not a name that I would have even considered.
DS4 Also named after a character from a film. But it's got really popular.
DS5 got the short and sweet be, can't imagine him being called anything else.

username1724 · 03/02/2021 22:27

Love ds1 name, ds2 I liked very much but didn't have the same click. When he was born though I loved it and I really enjoy saying it now, he also really suits it!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 03/02/2021 22:08

DS1 was only ever going to be called one name. Luckily it suits him and yes, I love it. I loved it first, and I love it on him.

I wanted to called DS2 Jude for most of my pregnancy, however DH’s first choice name slowly started to grow on me and we ultimately picked that and used Jude as a middle name. I love DS2’s name now (when I just liked it when I was pregnant) and it suits him down to the ground, couldn’t imagine him being anything else. I think I love the name now because I love him and obviously associate it with him.

Absolutely love my 2 boys names - much more than my daughters. They are gorgeous long traditional names that can be shortened to something cooler as they get older

clevername · 31/01/2021 10:22

When I was pregnant with my second I had the opposite situation - totally in love with a boys name but couldn't find a girls name I loved as much. We didn't find out the sex and I spent literally HOURS and HOURS trying to find a girls name. One of my first thoughts after the birth of my son was 'god, what a massive amount of time I wasted' Grin.

His name is Wilfred, btw and I still love it.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 31/01/2021 10:08

@LuckyFlash we have the opposite problem! We were sure we were having a boy and were dead set on the name! I absolutely adored it! But we are having a little girl! Which we are so happy with but just don't get the same YES feeling on the one we have currently!!! X

Edenember · 31/01/2021 09:24

I love both my sons names but also know exactly what you mean. The clutch of boys names I love is so short compared to girls names, then gets shorter still when you bring compromise into it. The closest I can get to pinning down my ‘taste’ in boys names is biblical, simply because 4 names I like (including my boys names) are biblical, but otherwise it’s quite hard to pin down. That said, my favourite name at the moment for a boy is Beck.

VienneseWhirligig · 30/01/2021 23:32

I love DS's name. I chose it before he was even thought of (his first name anyway). DH chose his middle name. He actually has the wrong middle name but I'm glad DH cocked up because the "right" one isn't one I would have liked much.

Woodlandbelle · 30/01/2021 23:22

I love my boys name but you would find them boring. But I like old saints names. They are classic and handsome. I can't stand made up crazy names, personally. But I will say its doesn't matter what a child is called. All children are beautiful and grow into their names.

CrustyCrabbe · 30/01/2021 23:10

Yes! I liked it before we had children, DH wasn’t keen on it initially but with 4 weeks to go he changed his mind and decided he loved it, so we narrowed it down to that, and one other. I still also like the ‘other’ name but really love the one we chose, it really suits him and he loves it too

BlueTimes · 30/01/2021 23:06

I didn’t completely love any of my children’s names at first. Only one was really named before birth and it took a long time to feel we got it right but after a year or so I felt we had and couldn’t picture them being called anything else. There is no chance I’m having anymore but if I did, I’d prefer a boy because we still have an unused boy name I really like. I expect I’ll use it on a cat instead though.

fluffythedragonslayer · 30/01/2021 23:01

I absolutely love both my son's names.

MBb217 · 30/01/2021 20:18

I do, but I’ve had it picked out for 8 years so I’m in a different situation perhaps. My second favourite boys name I really like but don’t love at the moment. I also find boys names very difficult. Have around 20 girls names on my list and around 5 boys names.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 30/01/2021 16:16

Absolutely love it, wouldn’t have used it otherwise. Unfortunately I think it’s down to us as parents to make sure we really go with something we like, not something others like or might judge us on.

Personally I prefer more unusual names to classic ones and wouldn’t want my son to be one of many with the same name at his school. My name is unusual and although I had a slight bit of difficulty with it growing up I would never change it. I’m glad my mum stuck to her guns! Oh and it hasn’t stopped me getting any jobs Grin

Mumski45 · 30/01/2021 09:33

Yes I do love my boys names but i didn't at first. DH has a different cultural background to me and was keen to choose names from his culture. I didn't mind as long as I had a choice. So he came up with a short list and I picked from the list.

DS1's name seemed strange to me at first but I stuck with it and now I love it. It really suits him. DS2's was more familiar as it crosses cultures and I loved it from the start.

HerbErtlinger · 30/01/2021 09:25

Nope don't love it and don't think I ever will. We really struggled all through the pregnancy to agree on a name we both liked. He was 9 weeks early and we ended up using the only name we agreed with at the time. Its not a bad name but I don't live it

bleachblondemom · 30/01/2021 09:19

@Ithinkhedidit ‘frilly’ is exactly the word I use to describe most girls names 😂 glad someone else knows what I mean!

Ithinkhedidit · 30/01/2021 09:15

I love more boy names than girl names - just as well as I have two boys! I find girl names either very frilly or too harsh to my ear. We are ttc number 3 and already have a boy's name agreed on 🤣
