So many lovely names on here, many of the same ones I have been considering! We love Eleri and Ellery but I’m not confident on the pronunciation of Eleri! Has anyone seen any info about the history of Ellery as a girls name in the UK?
Eleri is Elle-erry with the eri part pronounced like the erry in Kerry and Terry. Imagine saying Kerry but with an El instead of a K.

I think Eleanor is my favourite, and I do love the nicknames that can come from it, I just didn't know if Eleanor Amelia was too much? Amelia is a must as a middle name x

I love Eleanor. Traditional, and lots of good nicknames
Ellery and Mallory feel very modern in comparison, and Mallory just makes me think of the 1980s American sitcom. I dislike Heidi, and find it quite insubstantial compared with the others.

They are very different styles.

Mallory is very American, Heidi is one of those sweetly twee names, Eleanor is classic and elegant.

The only one I like is Eleanor.

Of your 3 choices, I like Eleanor best despite its popularity. It's very elegant and strong, with some great namesakes and has lots of nn options so she can chose whatever suits her personality best if she wants to (Nell, Leni, Ella, Elle, Ellie, Nora etc). Imo Mallory and Heidi can't compare to the classic feeling Eleanor has.

There is no J, K, Q, V or Z, but there are letters that are not in the English alphabet - Ch, Dd, Ff, Ng, Ll, Ph, Rh, and Th.

Rhys doesn't have an R in it, Ffion doesn't have an f in it, Angharad doesn't start with An, Dafydd doesn't end with a d.

A, E, I, O, U, W, Y and sometimes H are vowels. A name like Gwyn or Bryn does include a vowel.

Heidi Amelia is nice.

@PolarnOPirate, Evan is the anglicised form of Ifan. Welsh does have the letter E but not V. F always gives a V sound. FF is a separate letter.

Other anglicised Welsh names that can be used as first names are Vaughan (Fychan) and Lloyd (Llwyd). David is a good name.

Evan is nice.

Good to know! I love it. When I was considering naming my son Evan I had mumsnetters pile on saying there is no E in welsh and so Evan is not a truly welsh name, it should be Ifan. Which is fine as we're not welsh either Grin

Aha! - I think Robin is moving over to being more of a girls’ than a boys name, bit like Rowan - but anyway it’s definitely unisex. I love Lois - really underused - can he not be persuaded?!

Few more thoughts - Clara, Caitlin, Ffion, Rowan, Pippa (as nn for Philippa), Ines, Lauren, Aisling (Ash-linn), Juno, Tessa, Jasmine, Iris, Kristen, Roslyn, Thora, Freya
