Alban can be pronounced either way. Either Al-ban or All-ban. So Albie could work as a shortened form, depending.

Subla2401 · 28/01/2021 23:45

Another idea is Calvin?

LittleTiger007 · 28/01/2021 23:36

Alban doesn’t really work shortened to Albie as it’s pronounced All-ban as in St. Albans

SoMuchToBits · 28/01/2021 23:29

Or Alban possibly shortened to Albie.

SoMuchToBits · 28/01/2021 23:28

I like Alvin, but prefer Alvar. Lovely name, can still be shortened to Al.

LittleTiger007 · 28/01/2021 23:24

Looking at above comments I love Alban James and Asher James

LittleTiger007 · 28/01/2021 23:22

I like Alby much more. Alvin is too chipmunk for me.
I would spell it Albie though.

Hopingformydb · 28/01/2021 00:23

@CoffeeBeansGalore oooh Asher is nice dont like other names

Sorry, first thought was chipmonk For Alvin. Not keen on Alby. What about these:

Aiden James
Aaron James
Adam James
Asher James

bitheby · 27/01/2021 23:40

I really like Albie but you could have Alvie. It was the name of one of the characters in the film Sixty Six. It means wise friend according to a Google search.

partyatthepalace · 27/01/2021 23:28

I think Albie needs to be an nn for Albert. Prefer it to Alvin, but Alvin is Ok

Aveline is nice, Avie just sounds like a nn for it

Arrierttyclock · 27/01/2021 22:10

Alvin is such a cool name. Alby is v popular atm!

Blondiney · 27/01/2021 20:46

@DarcyJack

Alvin and the chipmunks - Albi the racist dragon (Flight of the Conchords) don't do either !!!

DarcyJack · 27/01/2021 18:03

Albert James is your answer. Perfect.

Firebird83 · 27/01/2021 17:55

Alvin is nice. I like Albin as well.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/01/2021 17:51

Love pp's suggestion of Alban. It's more cool and unusual than retro Albert, but more suitable for an adult imo than cutesy Alby (but you can still use Alby as a nn - perfect compromise!)

Ellmau · 27/01/2021 15:19

Alvin, yes I'm afraid I would be thinking chipmunk.

Alby doesn't feel complete to me.

What about Alban?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 27/01/2021 14:37

Alban is kind of cool and unusual and could have nn Alby?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 27/01/2021 14:35

I really hate Alby. Is it even a real name? Its suddenly so popular and I don't get where it came from? It sounds like a nickname for a baby named Albert, but definitely not a suitable name for anyone over the age of 2.

I don't really like Alvin either but it's better than Alby in that at least it's a real name.

James is lovely though. Like nn Jimmy, so cute for a kid imo!

finallychangedmyusername · 27/01/2021 13:09

Alvin is fine, chipmunk association isn't too strong and isn't a bad thing. I personally find Albie both too cute sounding, nicknamey and I think of "albino".

RuthW · 27/01/2021 12:19

Alvin definitely

Chilldonaldchill · 27/01/2021 09:12

Alvin is fine.
I personally prefer Albie (though spelt like that) as I know some lovely teenage ones.

KeeefBurtain · 27/01/2021 07:46

You could use Elvin instead to get away from the chipmunk vibe.
