Maybe if you are French or live in France. If you're British and live in Britain I would choose another L name

Pretty (if insubstantial) in French but awful in English. I knew a family with a little Lilou, I think one parent was French-speaking, but the other parent had a broad Yorkshire accent and it just sounded silly.

Also it will be confused with Lila, Lola, Lulu etc.

It's a traditional French diminutive for Marie-Louise I think. It's not a given name in itself. Unless you're naming a little terrier or something. Then it's cute.

If you were naming a small dog or a feminine hygiene product then yes. A person - no.

Sorry to be so blunt OP but that is a shocker. Use it as a nn if you insist but foe heavens sake call her something that is a proper name or at least sounds like one.

Do you live in a French speaking country (or have a French Surname)? I think otherwise it could be quite unusual and even a bit cute sounding. But Lilou is pretty and would make an adorable nn for a girl with the first name Lily/Lilia/Lilian and the middle name Louise/Louisa/Lucy/Lucia.

Not sure how to pronounce it. It’s a bit twee for me too. Reminds me of Lilo and Stitch.

I’m not keen on names that sound like they should be nicknames or pet names - ie Lulu, Fifi, Gigi. I always think it will be difficult for that child to be taken seriously as an adult.

If the family is French, I would just assume it was something to get used to, like all the names from all the different countries that families are from.

If the family were English (and you are in England - I totally realise there are people on here the World over, even though it is a majority UK site) then I don't really like it.
