Help me with a boys name...

Still agonising over the name for ds4. I’ve used up all my favourite names on the older three!!

Here goes - we decided on Theo, short for Theodore, dh just changed his mind and pitched Wilbur, which I think is lovely and I agreed to it yesterday but now I’m really not sure.

I like Arthur which has been strongly vetoed by dh. I also like Atticus and Otto both of which Mumsnet has already advised against.

I think I’m looking for a name that isn’t particularly common but also not so unusual that it’s not actually a name!

Please help!

I like Wilbur - more unusual than Arthur and Theo but not outlandish unusual (which some people would think Atticus is). I hate Otto (sorry!).

Rufus, Digory, Oscar, Lawrence, Tobias, Barnabus, Miles, Kester, Wilfred, Edwin, Christopher nn Kit or Christy, Robert nn Robin, Hugo, Rufus, Rafe, Guy

Atticus is great, and I continue to be surprised when people cross off a perfectly reasonable name they clearly like because (some in) a group of strangers aren't keen. I would love to meet a little Atticus - and I love Kit and Gus as short forms for it!
I also like Wilbur and Theodore.

Like Wilbur and Otto from your list

Ooh I love pp suggestions of Alaric, Nathaniel and Asa - gorgeous.

Btw Wilbur's not particularly my cup of tea (although I quite like Wilfred and love William). But then I love Atticus and really hate Otto (and am indifferent to popular Arthur and Theodore) so maybe my taste in names or suggestions won't help!

It's difficult to know what to suggest because those names seem a bit different in style. What are your other boys called?

Less popular, but still well known, names I like (in a variety of styles) are: Rufus, Maxim, Caspian, Magnus, Evan, Owen, Cassius, Xavier, Ivo, Jago, Macsen, Hugh, Corin, Evander, Ioan, Heath, Lysander, Soren, Iolo, Leif, Elias, Mathias

Wilbur is gorgeous and definitely fits the bill of being heard of but not too popular or not too out there either.

I’ve a friend with a son called Atticus (age 11 now). Really suits him. When she first said that’s what she was calling him I wasn’t so sure - I’ve only ever heard it in To Kill a Mockingbird. I also like Theo (another 11 year old). I know a few Arthurs mostly aged either 7 or 60’s. Don’t know any Wilburs at all. So if you want different but known... What’s made you go off it?

MindGrapes · 21/01/2021 23:00

I liked Arthur but my DH vetoed it. It's quite popular.
I know a Wilbur and a Wilfred, both nice names.
Ralph? Albie? Frankie? Felix? Alfred?

I do like Felix actually.
