Celina or Serena?

We absolutely love these names but cannot decide between the two! DH loves Serena and I love Celina! I love the moon goddess and heaven association to the name... I also like Serena as a second option, for DH it’s the other way round, Serena first option and then Celina.
What associations do you have to these names and which one is your favourite?

Did you think of Céline? Or Celine without the accent to make it easier. It’s a beautiful French name.
I would pick that, otherwise Serena as Celina seems a bit made up, not quite right

Marlena1 · 23/01/2021 14:26

Though!

Marlena1 · 23/01/2021 14:26

Serena is gorgeous! Both good thogh I think.

DramaAlpaca · 22/01/2021 00:41

I prefer Serena.

I like Celine better than Celina.

Countrywalking · 22/01/2021 00:26

Celina Smile

Cattenberg · 22/01/2021 00:19

I had Serena and Celine on my shortlist.

I was put off Celine when I imagined another British kid yelling “Sleen!” across the playground. Celina works better in the UK, I think. I love the meaning.

As much as I love Serena, I’m glad I didn’t go for it in the end as DD, bless her, isn’t a particularly serene character.

But both names are beautiful, so either way, you can’t go far wrong.

Serena.
Ciena/Sienna?

MercyBodle · 21/01/2021 23:54

I prefer Serena. It somehow feels more substantial.

gottakeeponmovin · 21/01/2021 22:17

Celina reminds me of semolina - always has

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/01/2021 21:16

They sound so similar, I would go for Serena. Please don't underestimate the pain that is having to spell out your name every single time you have to give it to someone.

Mincepie5 · 21/01/2021 21:11

Sorry, Celina reminds me of Semolina and everything beginning with ‘cel’. Serena is lovely.

funnyoldonion · 21/01/2021 20:51

Celina seems dated and Serena just really beautiful and ethereal, I really love Serena

Joinedjustforthispost · 21/01/2021 20:48

Serena is classy, Celina is trashy!

Ellmau · 21/01/2021 20:28

Serena is beautiful. I also like Selene.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 21/01/2021 19:57

Serena I'm yet to meet a nice Celina 😂

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/01/2021 19:52

If you want the obvious Moon Goddess link then I would personally spell it Selena (since Selene was the original name) - it's also the most popular/common spelling of the name now (in the UK but also internationally as far as I know).

I really love the sound of Selena (it's so slinky and elegant sounding imo - I think that is why the name has been used for several femme fatales in film/TV!) But Serena avoids the spelling issues of Selena/Selina/Celina and is a pretty name that's well known but not overused, so might be the safer option.

Firebird83 · 21/01/2021 19:51

I prefer Selina/Selena to Celina. Celina makes me think of Celine Dion.

bridgetreilly · 21/01/2021 19:44

In order, I prefer:
Serena
Selena
Celina

But I like Sabrina better than all of them.

sherrystrull · 21/01/2021 19:35

I love Serena. It sounds like serene.

I don't like the leen sound in Celina and reminds me of semolina.

partyatthepalace · 21/01/2021 19:29

I love Serena - so beautiful and underused, and the serenity association is great.

Not mad keen on Celina/Selena, just not as pretty. I like Selene (sell-ee-nee) better - but not as much as Serena.

Luckyelephant1 · 21/01/2021 14:21

Serena. It's beautiful and a really 'flowy' sort of name.

Like a pp said I can't work out what it is but there's something I don't like about Celina/Selina. Maybe the 'L' sound.

2020quelhorreur · 21/01/2021 13:17

Celina reminds me of Celine Dion. I like Serena!

FreeChuro · 21/01/2021 13:17

Absolutely **

FreeChuro · 21/01/2021 13:17

I'm going to be absent help whatsoever but I absolutely adore both names

crabette · 21/01/2021 13:14

I actually thought Serena Van der Woodsen from Gossip Girl before Serena Williams, not sure what that says about me!!

Celina I'd associate with Catwoman.

Neither are bad associations! And both are lovely names, but I prefer Serena too.
