DD is 10 days old and still nameless.

Our shortlist is:

Calista Joy
Roxana Iris
Morgana Faith

Big sister is Persephone. Which names would you choose and why?

Love the suggestion of Calliope.
Sephi and Callie go beautifully.

Peeteea · 20/01/2021 12:56

If you’re after another Callie nickname possibility, then have you considered Calliope? She was a nymph and muse of poetry and music- i believe it means something along the lines of “beautiful voice”. Pronounced Kal-ee-OH-pi in modern Greek in my experience but i know people in English would probably pronounce KAL-ee-oh-pi. Would work with Joy too.

Best of luck with your husband 😁 looking forward to seeing what you choose!

Thank you for all the comments everyone! Even those of you who think the names are horrible Grin wouldn't life be dull if we all agreed with each other all the time.

To answer some of the questions:

Persephone is currently known as Sephi, as she's only 4 and it's a big name for such a little girl.

We'd pronounce Calista CA-lista

Am I quite posh/overly pretentious? Haha. No. But I do live in a part of SE London where nobody would bat an eyelid at these names. I'm less confident about how they'd be received back in my home town of Glasgow, mind you. Plus I loved Greek/Roman mythology as a child so that's where that influence is coming from.

Some of the other suggestions are beautiful and we had already considered (e.g. Cassandra, which I love - DH ruled out because of Only Fools, the fool). I hadn't thought of Cassia, so have added to the list.

I really like Roxana, with Roxy as a nickname. I'm struggling a bit with Morgana as it seems harder to shorten. Calista is growing on me hugely....I had added it as a potential tie breaker but like it a lot more than I'd realised.

Off to do battle with DH again, will keep you posted!

No way I just name our DD Roxana!
We call her Roxy or Xana.
Calista is lovely too, names we also liked were; Delta, Anya, Sabrina and Nova.
All our fab OP, which one do you feel suits her? I had a feeling when I was pregnant and OH suggested Roxy, when he said it I was like oh that sounds right.. we didnt even know what we were having! I was thinking of calling her Rocco if she was a boy I liked it so much ahha.

minmooch · 20/01/2021 00:46

How about

Hermione
Delphine
Anastasia

Tavannach · 20/01/2021 00:37

Calista Joy.

MercyBodle · 20/01/2021 00:30

Roxana is my favourite from your list. A mixture of unusual traditional and exotic, fits perfectly next to Persephone. (Though I think they all work for Persephone's sister.) Roxana makes me think of the Daniel Defoe novel.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2021 23:43

Calista is the best fit with Persephone.

Orphlids · 19/01/2021 22:50

I love Morgana. It was the name I always thought I’d choose if I one day had a daughter. I do like anything Arthurian. We went for Isolde in the end. I’d be thrilled to meet a little Morgana.

Chilldonaldchill · 19/01/2021 16:50

I would choose Calista as I think it's beautiful.
Personally I'd go for Calista Iris.

NoPupIsTooSmall · 19/01/2021 16:44

I really love all the middle names.

From the first names I like Calista the best but agree with a PP about where the emphasis goes - I'm not actually sure. In my head it's ca-LIST-a but it could be CA-list-a? So might annoy you if people get it wrong.

Cassandra?

HalfTermHalfTerm · 19/01/2021 16:30

@toolazytothinkofausername

I like Calista Joy best.

I dislike Roxana Iris as it sounds like a lady from a punk band.

I dislike Morgana Faith as Morgana is a Queen in Game of Thrones.

Are you thinking of Merlin? There might be a minor character called Morgana in GoT, but I think of Arthur whenever I hear it.

I like Calista best OP!

GingerBeverage · 19/01/2021 16:29

The Morgana I know hated it being shortened to Morgie.

Calista Joy ftw

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 19/01/2021 16:15

Calista Joy is my favourite and sounds best with Persephone.

Marcipex · 19/01/2021 16:12

Callista is lovely.

Hoowhoowho · 19/01/2021 16:07

All three are fine.

Calista- nickname Callie/Cali is great. Persephone and Calista will sound like you’re quite posh. Are you?

Roxana- will get misspelled, don’t love Roxy but do like Roxana. Persephone and Roxana is a bit more difficult to stereotype, different sort of names. Percy and Roxy sound good together.

Morgana- is nice. No great short forms though. Persephone and Morgana also different sorts of names

JemimaTiggywinkle · 19/01/2021 15:46

Calista

evenBetter · 19/01/2021 15:44

Roxana is a whole different type of name to Persephone, Morgana would be ‘Morgs’, Calista ‘goes with your other kids name.

Amdone123 · 18/01/2021 22:58

Calista Joy is lovely.

Dont like the other 2, sorry.

whattodo2019 · 18/01/2021 22:47

Sorry they are all awful names. Although i line Persephone

partyatthepalace · 18/01/2021 22:43

I love Persephone...

I’m not keen on any of your choices truthfully - Calista is Ok I guess. How about Cassia - that’s lovely.

Ismene? Maia? Athena? Selene? Circe?

Firebird83 · 18/01/2021 22:16

Calista Joy, but I’d spell it Callista.

CoffeeRunner · 18/01/2021 22:09

Calista Iris. Callie is a lovely nn.

littlemisslozza · 18/01/2021 22:05

Calista is lovely! Morgana would probably end up as Morgan which has a totally different feel and Roxana would be Roxy eventually.

EileenGC · 18/01/2021 21:53

I'm not a fan of Calista but I adore Callie!

Rosanna is much nicer than Roxana, but either of them goes nicely with Iris.
