Saskia or Scarlett

DH & I still have 4 months to go until first DC. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing given how wildly our liked names are changing.

We think we like Saskia and Scarlett but not sure if they sound too harsh. Also, (and could be an obvious reason to rule it out) we’re debating whether Saskia is pronounced Sah-skia or Sas-kia (hope this isn’t too ridiculous a question).

Grateful for any thoughts on these two names

Saskia is lovely. I don’t like Scarlett, it just sounds too harsh.

I don't know any Scarletts or Poppys well enough to comment but the Ruby I know is the kindest, gentlest, sweet natured girl.
And no I'm not related to her. Smile

Thanks so much for your replies everyone. I must admit, neither of us associated Scarlett with Scarlett woman nor thought of the chance of mis-hearing it as Charlotte. Thanks for the insights. Haha also thank you for well and truly clearing up the Saskia pronunciation issue. We’ll keep both on our list but think Romy & Emma might still beat them at this stage.

Surely people think of Scarlett O'Hara rather than a scarlet woman??

I worked in a girls' school once and for some reason all of the girls with 'red' names (Scarlett, Poppy, Ruby) seemed to be forever getting into trouble and bullying other kids.

Just a coincidence, I imagine, but for that reason alone I would opt for Saskia. I've only ever heard it pronounced SASS-kia.

I never usually say this but I don't like either of them I'm afraid. The pronunciation issue would put me off Saskia, and Scarlett just had connotations of a scarlet women which is not what I would want for any daughter personally (sorry).

Saskia a million times more than Scarlett.
I also like Sasha.

Saskia by a long way. Beautiful, classy, historic name. Rembrandt's wife's name, too.

Scarlett doesn't have the same vibe at all.

I like Saskia and have only heard it pronounced SASS-kee-a. Scarlett is OK but I don't like the Scar sound (prefer Charlotte).
