Lucy or Marianne?

All right dear MN, I now believe after maaany hours debating that we have our winning duo for DD due in February:
Marianne
Or
Lucy

Which one do you prefer and why? What kind of little girl do you imagine for both?

Our surname is one syllable, both go well with it.

And @Samistar thank you, I keep hesitating between both, now having firmly Lucy in the middle name category. So hard to choose!

@Samistar Arianne is gorgeous! In French we spell it Ariane, it’s not as used as it should be!

I think Marianne is beautiful, it's not a commonly used name whereas Lucy is OK but it's very popular. ps I may be slightly biased as I have an Arianne 😊

@pemba I think we will give Marianne Lucy. If we have a DD2 she would be Eliza Faye.

Thank you everyone so much for your input!

You definitely put my mind in the right direction and for once DH and I agree, as in we are both in agreement on the name we prefer...and it’s Marianne.

I was so set on Lucy and I still adore this name (as I do others such as Alice and Eliza), but Marianne has this thing that makes me really happy and so sure just hearing it.

Now another choice will be the middle name! We haven’t chosen it yet.

Just wanted to thank you all again 🥰

I love both but Lucy edges it for me. My daughter is Lucy and I agree it's a perfect name for a "happy blonde little girl". That's 100% my girl ☺️

Lucy is nice, but Marianne is gorgeous and much more unusual.

Marianne Lucy (using Lucy as the middle) flows beautifully, and is my dream name for a Jane Austen-esque heroine.

I like Lucy but it's very common. I prefer Marie-Anne to Marianne.

"What kind of little girl do you imagine for both?" - well, you'll get the same little girl whichever you choose!

Marianne, I have always loved this name.

Lucy is fine. Marianne has personality.

I like both but prefer Lucy. Marianne finishes with too much of a full stop if pronounced Mari-ANNE.
