A cursed box of troubles. Nope!

Trer · 17/01/2021 14:56

I absolutely love it. Great name. I don't think of the bracelets. Perhaps Adrian Mole but I love that. I'd use Dory or Panda as a nickname.

Lass67 · 17/01/2021 13:58

Sorry I did know a real life Pandora and hear a man say he couldn’t wait to get into her box

Lizadork · 17/01/2021 11:22

Beautiful name

Bluesername · 17/01/2021 09:27

Pandora is a lovely name. Lots of names are in stories but are still nice names regardless.

WhyDoesItAlways · 17/01/2021 09:16

I had a friend at school called pandora (Pandy for short). I don't remember anyone mentioning the box or Adrian mole to her. The jewelry company was not a thing at the time.

She had a cupboard in her room which had "Pandora's box" painted on it. I opened it once but there was just toys inside Grin

Kljnmw3459 · 17/01/2021 08:35

Maybe use it as a second name?

Onlinedilema · 17/01/2021 08:33

It’s a no from me.

babynamelover · 17/01/2021 06:08

I too came to suggest Isadora I don't know if we are quite ready for Pandora to be mainstream. I personally struggle with the jewellery connection.

MercyBodle · 17/01/2021 04:15

I really like Pandora as a first name.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 17/01/2021 01:20

I’m profoundly in love with Pandora 🎼

PattyPan · 17/01/2021 01:18

My first thought was also Adrian Mole! I don’t like it - not good associations and crap nicknames.

Enough4me · 17/01/2021 00:38

Possibly with Dora as a nn. It's a bit like Raquel or Casandra to me though.

JamieFrasersSwingingKilt · 17/01/2021 00:33

I like it. Elegant and feminine. And who cares if people don't know the Greek myth; it just shows their ignorance.

PlanDeRaccordement · 16/01/2021 23:46

Artimesia Caria is a strong name. She was a Greek queen who was also an Admiral in the Greco-Persian War.

daisypond · 16/01/2021 23:07

I think the jewellery and Adrian Mole. I don’t mind the myth so much - she’s a similar archetype to Eve, and that’s popular enough as a name.

ButwhereisMYcoffee · 16/01/2021 22:46

Pandora Sykes is a good association I think, funny and clever and sort of nicely v well to do.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2021 22:46

Not for me. Three bad associations: the box, Adrian Mole, and that tacky jewellery.

thejollypostwoman · 16/01/2021 22:45

...and It started off so well! Right... back to the drawing board !

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/01/2021 21:54

No! Pandora released all the bad things on earth! Not a great choice for a child.

I also imagine kids who don't know the origin thinking she's named after a charm bracelet!

AllTheChocolateNow · 16/01/2021 21:42

Awful connotations.

Catty1720 · 16/01/2021 21:38

Remember if they hadn’t shut the box hope would have come out too so the box isn’t all bad

PlanDeRaccordement · 16/01/2021 21:32

No, it’s not a lucky name. Pandora was created as an instrument of Zeus to punish humans for Prometheus having stolen fire for them. (We all know how Zeus punished Prometheus himself too)
She is like a patient zero for evil. She unleashed hell on humanity.

mnahmnah · 16/01/2021 21:24

@partyatthepalace

But there are silly connotations that can be brushed off, or there are rude and inappropriate ones that I wouldn’t want my daughter to deal with such as this

thejollypostwoman · 16/01/2021 21:23

I actually thought it would be a bit more marmite than this... pleasantly surprised by the reception. Agree middle name needs to be extremely un-frilly(!)
