Also all hyphenated names Ellie-Mae etc

Onceuponatimethen · 17/01/2021 00:25

Molly
Milly
Poppy
Daisy

Etc

SiSi (cee-cee) and MiMi. These seem to be popular nicknames for Sienna and Mila/Mia/Amelia. They are the height of twee.

Very similar to what @IamnotwhouthinkIam said: diminutives, lots of names with -ie, -y or -ee endings, but not more cosmopolitan French names like Sylvie (I do however find Amelie quite twee), or Greek origin names like Xanthe, Zoe or Daphne. Also a few exceptions like Nancy, Josie and Holly, which I feel have a bit more energy to them - to me part of the ‘twee’ feel is being a bit weak and insipid.

Maisie
Daisy
Posy
Elsie
Rosie
Gracie
Connie
Kitty
Betsy
Lottie (a pet hate of mine!)
Ellie
Emmy
Millie
Evie/Edie

Most ‘cheeky chappy’ boys’ names ending in -ie (but not Laurie, which oddly is one of my favourite names!)

Alfie
Albie
Teddy (and Bear!)
Sidney
Freddie
Archie

Also obviously frilly, princessy names - things like Arabella, Arianna, Aurora... There are lots of girls at local toddler groups with vowel-heavy, slightly made-up sounding names ending in -ana or -ella (Caliana, Ariella) - all of those.

Cutesy nature names:
Primrose
Blossom
Luna

Also find Arlo and Milo quite twee for some reason.

Empressofthemundane · 16/01/2021 21:40

Agree that cute nicknames for toddlers sound silly on adults potentially. Better to have Elizabeth or Mathilda on ones birth certificate. The little one can be called Betty or Tilly or whatever, but then has lots of options when she grows up.

RJnomore1 · 16/01/2021 21:38

Anything that ends in an e sound for me too.

ParisJeTAime · 16/01/2021 21:35

I agree with Maisie and pretty much anything with Bella in it!

For boys, for me, it would be anything "cheeky chappy"ish. Especially shortened names on the BC which are not traditionally full names.

Teddy
Alfie
Harry
Jack
Charlie

(For some reason I love Archie though Confused).

All of this said, I know people with all of these names and don't bat an eyelid or think they're terrible or anything. I just wouldn't use the names myself.

Jemima

JohnBarron · 16/01/2021 21:24

Betsy
Poppy
Daisy
Maisie
Posey

All names that don’t seem like proper names.

MillieEpple · 16/01/2021 21:18

I had to look up twee. It said something about overly quaint, pretty and sentimental.

So im going with Florence

ILoveAnOwl · 16/01/2021 21:13

We met a health care professional called Poppy the other day. It was hard taking a grown woman called Poppy seriously.

MessAllOver · 16/01/2021 20:30

Verity
Beatrice
Petronella
Clarissa
Arabella

Dontsayyouloveme · 16/01/2021 19:55

Matilda!! 🙄

Ohalrightthen · 16/01/2021 19:52

@NeonSparkle

Anything double barrelled - especially with may, Maisie, Posey, Primrose, Clementine, Otillie, Arabella, Annabelle, Beatrice, Florence.
I just imagined someone calling their daughter Maisie-May and cringed so hard my soul left my body.

Then i realized it probably has happened at some point.

Insertfunnyname · 16/01/2021 19:47

Lucy

Peachypips78 · 16/01/2021 19:47

Tilly

AdventCaroline · 16/01/2021 18:18

I think double barrelled names where both names are a shortened form or "unusual" sound a bit twee - things like Daisy-May, Tilly-Star, Alfie-Jay, Archie-Jack that kind of thing.

Ok for a toddler, but a little twee for an older child or adult.

I don't think any of those names are twee on their own, it's the hyphen.

Oneandabean · 16/01/2021 18:10

What does twee even mean? I have only ever see it on here when people describe a name, never seen or heard it anywhere else? Is it just like a mn put down or something?

daisypond · 16/01/2021 17:53

Shortened names ending in -ie, unless they are French.
Elsie is twee but Sophie isn’t.

TheCap · 16/01/2021 17:40
