Baby boy due anytime.. what's your favorite of Caspar, Rowen or Tyler? Middle name James.

I know a 20 year old Rowan, it really suits him.

LNSL · 13/01/2021 20:35

My son's middle name is Casper. I love it.

user1493494961 · 13/01/2021 20:11

I would cross Tyler off the list, it has a totally different vibe to Caspar or Rowan.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/01/2021 20:01

@PlantPotting - I noticed that! Smile But while I think any name can be misspelt, imo it's less likely to happen with a popular name like Rowan (although I appreciate your personal experience!). Plus the Casper spelling is both more popular in the league tables and better known thanks to the "Friendly Ghost", so I think Caspar is slightly more likely to have to spell his name.

Ellmau · 13/01/2021 18:45

Rowan and Caspar are both good.

Not keen on Tyler.

GretaSheen · 13/01/2021 18:41

Anything but Tyler. Awful name.

Amdone123 · 13/01/2021 18:37

Caspar is lovely.
I like Rowan, but its getting quite popular.
A big NO to Tyler.

PlantPotting · 13/01/2021 18:35

Caspar is a great name by the way

PlantPotting · 13/01/2021 18:35

@IamnotwhouthinkIam interesting you think Rowan would be more straightforward to spell when even @imabusybee has spelt it wrong in the original post!

My baby daughter is called Rowan and to be honest if I'd realised how popular it is getting at the same time as Roman (and other similar names), I wouldn't have picked it. I often get asked on the phone: "are you spelling that name with an W or H or M in the middle" and I hate the nickname Row. I've asked family not to use it but it's accidental, I know they don't mean to. There's 2 Romans at our small local nursery and my Rowan, it does get confusing. I won't pick such a fast rising name if I'm lucky enough to have another. Even though a name like Sophie is higher in the charts, a name like that won't date the way Roman and Rowan will, I fear.

APurpleSquirrel · 13/01/2021 18:19

My DS (2.5) is called Rowan so I'm obviously biased! I only know one other Rowan (aged 8) & one Rohan (adult) - both male. I know it is unisex but didn't realise it was getting popular. Don't let that put you off if you like it. Our nickname for him at present is Roro (row-row).

I'm afraid Casper makes me think of the friendly ghost & Tyler is a name I've heard mostly from the US.

Firebird83 · 13/01/2021 18:12

Caspar. Don’t like Tyler at all.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/01/2021 18:11

Not Tyler (assuming you are in the UK) - unfortunately it has a bit of a downmarket image here (I think it's fine in other English speaking countries though?).

Between Caspar and Rowan, I'd personally go for Rowan (despite it being more popular), as I think always having to spell Caspar/Casper/Kasper would bug me (and therefore possibly my child).

lockdownbreakdown · 13/01/2021 17:51

I know two little boys call Rowan and they are the loveliest boys. I also know a Caspar who is a delight. Tyler is either an occupation or surname and has awful connotations.

timetest · 13/01/2021 17:49

Casper and Rowan are lovely, I’m not too keen on Tyler.

toolazytothinkofausername · 13/01/2021 17:47

I like Caspar or Rowen. I hate Tyler. Just my opinion.

HappyFlamingo · 13/01/2021 17:46

In order: Rowan, Caspar, Tyler.

imabusybee · 13/01/2021 17:45

Thank you for all the opinions!! Really appreciate everyone's input.
I didn't realise Rowan (& similar names) were getting so popular.
DD has an increasingly popular name but it was outside the top 100 by miles when she was born. DS has a traditional boy's name but again outside top 100.

Caspar is my current favourite, & has been throughout my pregnancy but DH hasn't been keen - but annoyingly hasn't had anything positive to contribute until today! So together we've come up with these three to choose from.

I think we'll wait til he's here to choose, so feel free to continue to comment with your opinions! Thanks again Grin

Casper is lovely. Rowan is too girly imo. Tyler is just awful and certainly very different to the other two.

Flymetothestars · 13/01/2021 16:30

Caspar would be my number 1 choice from your list, I've loved the name a long time and am glad it's not got too popular.
Tyler is number 2 choice, it's ok, a grower maybe.
Rowan is bottom, too common/trendy now and I know too many girls with this name I'd consider it a risk to use on a boy but that's just me as it is unisex. It is a girl name in Scotland though it is "top100" for girls there but not used for boys and it's numbers have boomed for girls in America looking at the graphs. Also depends if you like nickname Row or not.

Leo674 · 13/01/2021 16:06

I love Rowan but would spell with an rather than en!

ParisJeTAime · 13/01/2021 15:49

And just saw update! Rowan and Caspar I like about equally.

ParisJeTAime · 13/01/2021 15:48

Caspar*

ParisJeTAime · 13/01/2021 15:47

Rowan and Casper are lovely!

I don't like the Rowen spelling or Tyler. James goes fine with all of them though.

EdgeOfACoin · 13/01/2021 15:42

Caspar!

Bluesername · 13/01/2021 15:29
  1. Caspar
  2. Rowan
  3. Tyler
