Me and partner discussing girls name and the following two have been put in the mix;

Astrid Aliana
Astrid Esme

Is it slightly too out there? We already have a Jenna which we love her name as it isnt very common.

Thank you for all your replies! I think we have decided to go with Astrid Alina if it's a girl Grin

(Astrid, not Adrid Blush)

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 10/01/2021 14:41

Aliana wouldn't be pronounced Alina - it would be said like 'A-lee-ar-na' or 'A-lee-anna'. I don't like it. It is too close to 'alien' and it is too A heavy with Adrid.

Astrid is amazing and I like it with Alina (spelt like this).

daisypond · 10/01/2021 14:18

Alena I would pronounce as Al-ay-na. I think you need to spell it Alina to get the pronunciation you want. Astrid is fine. I think Astrid Alina is fine too. Nothing wrong with Astrid Geraldine either/.

Onlinedilema · 10/01/2021 13:07

I would not use Astrid with Alianna, to many As. Whatever you do , do not lumber a child with a name nobody can spell of pronounce.
Astrid is ok it's becoming more common so not too out there.

VenusClapTrap · 10/01/2021 10:46

Astrid Aline flows nicely. Middle names with ‘a’ on the end make it all sound a bit fussy to me.

Astrid Elise
Astrid Eponine
Astrid Anaïs
Astrid Ellen

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/01/2021 00:38

Astrid Geraldine then surely?

MercyBodle · 10/01/2021 00:33

Astrid Esme is better than Astrid Aliana, but I like Astrid Alina more than Astrid Esme.
It sounds like your partner gets to call the name shots. Make sure you get to veto his too, and demand the spelling you want.... 'I would prefer Astrid as the first name' - well then stick to that then...

BrokenCircle · 09/01/2021 22:02

Astrid Esme is lovely!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 09/01/2021 21:59

Astrid is a good name
Astrid Mae
Astrid Rae
Astrid Isabelle

SamanthaF1233 · 09/01/2021 21:55

Jodie was also a 50/50 - I think we'll defo be going with Astrid just need to finalise the middle name. We'll spend ages choosing and then have a boy 😅 thank you for all your suggestions/help.

Yes, I do understand that and the reason it was also spelt like that to begin with was because we was deciding how we would say it but with how we want it to be said it would be spelt Alena.

Unusual spellings? Problem is if it fundamentally changes the phonetics of the name you an be as unusual with spelling as you want but no one else will get it

partyatthepalace · 09/01/2021 21:50

Love Astrid, also really like Clara but Astrid more unusual. Don't like Jodie.

I think Astrid Esme is fine, or Astrid Clara (or Clara Astrid!), but I think Astrid Geraldine is fine if you want the family name - or Astrid Clara Geraldine come to that

SamanthaF1233 · 09/01/2021 21:48

My partner is quite likes unusual spellings - his suggestion to be spelt that way however I do get that it would need to be spelt differently to then be pronounced how we want it to be!

Yeah would be EzMay if we decided to go with that.

I do like Clara, feels it goes well with Astrid! But OH like that combination the other way round Hmm and I would prefer to have Astrid as the first name.

ParisJeTAime · 09/01/2021 21:41

Clara is lovely too! I can't use it, or else it would be on my list for any (completely hypothetical) future dd.

ParisJeTAime · 09/01/2021 21:40

I like Astrid Esme Smile

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 09/01/2021 21:39

How are you saying Esme? EzMay to rhyme with Ray?

galaxy9 · 09/01/2021 21:35

Astrid Aliana. Esme, although nice, is such common filler name

SamanthaF1233 · 09/01/2021 21:34

So our Jenna carries her late great grandma name of Ann thought about then carrying on my partners other grandmas name if we have another girl but her name is Geraldine so it's very difficult to pair we find.

We have very limited family/sentimental names female wise so are struggling with that. I did query the spelling and would change it to Alena/Alina if we did go with that.

I quite like Clara but OH now likes Clara Astrid Hmm - typical haha! I do quite like Astrid next to Jenna think it goes quite well.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 09/01/2021 21:28

I like Astrid merryn as suggested

SacreBleeeurgh · 09/01/2021 21:27

LOVE Astrid. Also quite like Aliana but pronounced how it looks - so a-lee-a-na. A-Lee-na would have to be Alina surely?

Going to be controversial perhaps, but middle names I really think require some meaning - so family names, named for a close friend, godparent, someone who passed away etc etc - otherwise what’s the point? Neither of my two have middle names that I would have considered for a first name, but have real sentimental value..

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 09/01/2021 21:27

I’d have never guessed a-Lee-nah from Aliana, that’s not what it’s written as?

if your set on that pronunciation I’d get different spelling

SamanthaF1233 · 09/01/2021 21:22

It would be pronounced a-Lee-nah so maybe a different spelling would be needed?

Any suggestions on middle names for Astrid? We like Jodie as a second choice for her name (if we have a girl as we dont know) but feel Astrid is a bit more unique.
