Vaila?

Heard the name Vaila recently and I really like it.

What do you think?

Middle name would be Violet as it’s a family name, but is Vaila Violet a bit of a mouthful? Surname is a 2 syllable girls name beginning with P. OH loves Grace so could be Vaila Grace instead.

We're in Scotland and our old dentist was called Vaila Grin it's pretty but I agree with the others Vaila Violet is a bit much.

Ailsa, or Eilish maybe?

Father49 · 03/05/2021 17:05

Can I ask where you live? I love the name but we live in London now and I’m worried it would be a name that people would struggle with.

Father49 · 03/05/2021 17:03

Love Vaila. I was born in Shetland and it’s always been top of my girls lift! Did you go for it?

Cad5518 · 22/03/2021 15:56

We called our daughter Vaila, I think it’s a beautiful name. People definitely second glance you when you tell them, we’ve had a lot of Layla, Veila, Viola etc.
What did you go for with the middle names? Go with what you want!

It says the island Vaila is named after a man called Vali.

No sorry it's too close to vulva Blush

MercyBodle · 12/01/2021 06:07

Vaila is lovely. I wouldn't use Violet in the middle though - Grace works nicely.

IVflytrap · 10/01/2021 13:12

How about two middle names? Vaila Grace Violet Surname.

partyatthepalace · 09/01/2021 20:07

It does sound an odd combo to me - maybe put something in the middle??

Violet is really nice, I don't like Vaila to be honest.

There are some lovely Scottish girls' names though.

florascotia2 · 09/01/2021 19:45

ffs - should be : 'as in very important saint ...'

florascotia2 · 09/01/2021 19:44

Iona does not mean violet.
That would be Ione (Greek). www.behindthename.com/name/ione

There is so much utter, utter rubbish about Scottish names - and I expect other names, too - on websites.

Iona - the Scottish island - either means 'Yew Tree Island or just 'island' as inery-important-saint- St- Columba's- base). Whatever it means - scholars do not agree - it has nothing to do with violets.

No, I don't like it. Violet is nice.

Juanbablo · 09/01/2021 18:58

First time hearing it but I like it! It reminds me of Vada which I adore.

Under the name /meaning Vaila means violet!!

swiftt · 09/01/2021 18:18

@daisypond I was thinking that! Vaila may get vetoed anyway, I haven’t brought it up yet. Grin

Vaila Violet doesn’t sound right to me. But as a middle name it doesn’t really matter. Or you could add another middle name in the centre - Vaila Grace Violet?

swiftt · 09/01/2021 17:51

@Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool aw I dont blame you! I grew up very near to Mull, it’s beautiful. I quite like Morven as a name, too.

@SendHelp30 yes, pronounced like Vayla. It’s the name of a small island in Shetland.

SendHelp30 · 09/01/2021 17:41

How do you pronounce it?

Vayla?

Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool · 09/01/2021 17:40

Ah that's a shame. Iona is a beautiful place!!
Sad that Mull isn't a good name for a dc imo!!

swiftt · 09/01/2021 17:37

@Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool my surname is an object, so would sound like I Own A -insert surname- Blush it just doesn’t sound right to me, but it is a lovely name! Also where I’m from, the ‘I’ sound comes out really harshly in certain accents and I find it really offputting. Similar reason why I wouldn’t use Violet as a first name - it comes out with a really quick, harsh ‘I’ sound like ‘vylit’ and all I can hear is my grandad shouting it!

What about Iona?
