Adeline?

So I've posted a couple of threads recently. Originally thinking of a naming our DD something classic like Emily or Alice which are both lovely, but seems a shame to use something so popular when there are so many lovely names out there.

I love Beatrix but my DH has firmly vetoed it.

We've come across the name Adeline and both kind of love it. Nickname could be Ada or Addie. Any thoughts? She would be Adeline Freda. Seems to be an old fashioned name but not too popular?

Apologies to go against the flow. It sounds a bit like an acne cream or medication to me.

Then again, my son's name can be tweaked into a commonly used euphemism for your bottom, so I should keep quiet!

Absolutely love it. Very classy but not in a stuffy way.

I was in Smyth's once and heard a child being called for by their parents. Adelina! Adore that too.

Beautiful name. If you use the name, people will hear it and repeat it. I don’t think pronunciation would be an issue.

I absolutely love Adrianna with nickname Adie (rhyming with Sadie)

I agree there's a lot of confusion about pronunciation on here which is putting me off a fair bit!

I wouldn't know if it was Linn, Lyne or Leen. Tbh I'm even more confused after reading this thread, as all three pronunciations seem to be in use.
Addie makes sense as a nickname, Ada less so as there's no "ay" sound in Adeline so I doubt it would actually stick. What about Ada as a full name - at least it's more straightforward?

The character in Bread wasn’t called Adeline, she was Aveline.

My DD is 'Adalyn:. Pronounced ad-a-lin. Adaline was my original choice but DH didn't like it.
I love it. It sounds sweet but will grow with her. People call her Addy as a nickname. It's not mispronounced often - people call her Adaline if they do! They mispronounce my DS's common name & get mine all sorts of wrong so it's going to happen anyway.

I have discovered it's getting more popular though. I thought I was being cleverly original but have met a few girls the same age now (DD is 4).

I don't know the bread thing - were in Australia so haven't heard of it.

I like it & love the nn Ada - DS was going to be called that if he'd been a girl. I'd say adda-line too.

While it's more popular in some regions of the US than the UK in recent years, I don't associate Adeline with being American at all (being from Midwest US).

There's an Adalind character in TV series Grimm... Was first time I'd heard that.. That's very similar.

Love it! We have an Adelina in the family and Adelaide was on our list until she came along! Ada Freda seems a bit much but I spose that’s not much of an issue if she’s Adeline officially.

Love it! Makes me think of the Whiteoak/Jalna novels by Mazo de la Roche.
Would automatically pronounce as Adahleen though.

Oh sorry I misunderstood, you want it pronounced like Caroline - that's fine then, I think the majority of people would.

It's lovely but my instinct would be to pronounce it as Ad - eh -line (like the Age of Adaline film or like the English pronunciation of Caroline). Also "Ad - eh - leen Free -da" has a lot of "e" sounds so I think the more common Adeline pronunciation works better in this case. But Adeline Freda is very pretty anyway and Ada and Addie nice nn's.

It's on my list too, which is why I'm thinking it's not that unusual. I like the idea of the name being unusual enough that DC would be the only one in their class with that name and no one else we know has it

But we don't know what the other children in our child's class will be called so that's not the only factor of course
