A classic, or still a bit too 90s?

I love this name. It was on my list for DD but as its my friends name my dh thought it weird to name her that.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 10/01/2021 17:01

Classic!

RoseMartha · 10/01/2021 16:53

Classic and I prefer it to Emily

Lollypop4 · 10/01/2021 16:51

My rescue dog is called Emma (Aka Em, Emmie, Ems, Emsie)
I know about 6 'human' Emma's, all mid 30s

bloodyhairy · 10/01/2021 16:45

Ex teacher here, and I have never known a bad Emma!

CoodleMoodle · 10/01/2021 16:22

Of the 8 Emmas in my year at school, 7 of us were Emma Louise!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 10/01/2021 13:05

Every Emma I know is lovely so go for it.

Onlinedilema · 10/01/2021 13:04

Classic and easy to spell/pronounce.

ParisJeTAime · 10/01/2021 11:22

Jane Austen's Emma is a bit of a dick, but she is meant to be and she does find her way in the end.

I loved Clueless as well Blush.

Cam2020 · 10/01/2021 11:15

Nice name, but I don't like the Austen 'heroine' and that ruins it a bit for me.

Piccalily19 · 10/01/2021 11:12

I’m an Emma Louise born in the 90s 😂 never felt a strong love or hate for my name, it’s a little boring I suppose but definitely not a bad one though! I do occasionally get misheard over the phone as Anna but it’s a standard easy name otherwise.
I was 1 of 3 Emma’s in my year at school but not really heard of that many younger than me since.
If you like it then go for it ☺️

mogtheexcellent · 10/01/2021 08:28

Have a 7 year old Emma. Shes the only one in school apart from the headteacher. It suits her so well too.

Its common in Europe especially Scandinavia and Europe so travels well.

Some will find it boring and there is a great thread from 6 ish years ago about how boring it is.GrinGrin

missmouse101 · 10/01/2021 08:03

It's very boring. Notat all keen I'm afraid.

Xanthezoo · 10/01/2021 07:42

But yes, not Emma Louise! Perfectly nice, but it’s yesterday’s Olivia Grace.
Needs a more unusual second name.

Xanthezoo · 10/01/2021 07:40

Classic, beautiful name.

FluffyEggsontoast · 10/01/2021 04:03

I love it
Always been a favourite of mine

Very classic

mayandjuniper · 10/01/2021 01:36

@Firebird83 yes Louise was definitely the Rose/May of the 80s and 90s. I'm a 90s baby and had 3 Emmas in my year at school so although I loved it as a baby name when Rachel from Friends used it, I'd then changed my mind and thought it dated. But DP loves it and it's growing on me again.

Lovely name.

Firebird83 · 09/01/2021 23:25

It’s ok, but I went to school with so many Emmas it feels a bit bland to me. 90% of them seemed to be Emma Louise as well!

Coffeeandaride · 09/01/2021 21:03

I really like it and know a fab 3 year old Emma

makeittilyoufakeit · 09/01/2021 21:01

I'm also an Emma, I feel that it is timeless, and I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the name which is a bonus!

swiftt · 09/01/2021 20:49

I love it. I don’t think it’s 90s at all, and I know Emma’s of all different ages.

partyatthepalace · 09/01/2021 20:27

A classic. Great associations - Emma Peel and Jane Austin etc and good international recognition.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/01/2021 16:56

Classic. It was popular in the 70's, 80's and 90's, but not to the extent of say, Sarah. Emma or it's variants have likely been used in the UK since at least the 11th century and thanks to regular film/tv remakes of Austen's Emma many people will consider it a period classic (rather than a more dated one, even if they aren't aware of Emma's history).

I personally prefer the similar Anna but Emma is pretty, traditional, suits all ages and is simple to say and spell - a good choice imo.

CoodleMoodle · 09/01/2021 16:42

I'm an Emma. Born late 80s. There were 8 of us in my year at high school! But I quite like it as a name, it's simple and nobody ever has to ask how to spell it!
