Noah, Jacob and ??

I currently have 2 boys Noah and Jacob and now expecting a girl.
I found boys names so easy but girls names are so hard.
I prefer names that are less likely to be shortened. So far we've been okay with Noah and Jacob.
Popularity isn't a great concern, if we love a name we will use regardless.

Many years ago before having children I always said I wanted Noah and Amelia. But I'm not sure I completely love it.

Some other names I like are:
Juliet
Lyra (recently heard, what are your opinions on this?)
Eliana (again recently heard)
Rosie (my sons love Rosie because of a baby they know called Rosie, but I know someone with this name and I'm worried she'll think baby is names after her)

I'm put off by associations for alot of names due to the job I do! Which makes it even harder. Any help would be greatly recieved.

I love Lyra and Juliet, they are both on my list of non Welsh girls names, alongside Rosa. Eliana is very nice too.

Lyra has associations with His Dark Materials which are anti organised religion so maybe Lyra clashes a bit with the very biblical Noah and Jacob?

I would say Noah is quite trendy and Jacob is more of a classic name so I think that gives you the option of a more trendy girl's name like Lyra or a more classic one like Lucy.

I don't think Juliet is too unusual, everyone has heard the name but it's not overused. I know a Juliet and a Juliette, both in their 30s.

I know you're not after biblical names but what about Lydia? It's one of those names that's not as obviously biblical but it had a similar feel (to me anyway) to the names you like.

I think a virtue name like Grace, Verity, Hope or Felicity would go well with Noah and Jacob.

Otherwise I would look at classics like Lucy, Emma, Katharine/Kate, Tess/a, Sophie, Laura etc.

Juliet is not unusual.
Lyra is very Philip Pullman.
Rosie is twee.

Martha is good.
If you like Anna, how about Annabel or Hannah?
If you like Eliza, there are lots of other forms of Elizabeth - Elsie, Elise, Elsa etc.

LittleTiger007 · 10/01/2021 09:22

Martha is a good fit

Adelaide
Jemima
Susanna
Rosalind
Catherine

EileenGC · 08/01/2021 16:05

I immediately thought Noah, Jacob and Clara.

From your list I love Lyra, followed closely by Juliet. Rosie is nice too.

I really like Martha. It's in my top 5 for girls' names so that says it all! Doesn't sound too old-fashioned to me, but then I do like more traditional and 'granny' names.

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 15:50

Personally I have always loved Eleanor, and would go for that over any other 'El-' name, though.

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 15:49

Eloise?

Anon0987654321 · 08/01/2021 15:40

@NoSquirrels Unfortunately a close family member has a Charlotte so rules that out. I do like Lottie though as a stand alone name.
Isadora is beautiful but makes an awful name with the surname sadly.

@LilacSloth Elodie is pretty. I've toyed around with that one a few times. But always end up taking it off the list.

Cora

LilacSloth · 08/01/2021 15:31

From your list I like Juliet best. How about:
Noah, Jacob and Ruth
Noah, Jacob and Genevieve
Noah, Jacob and Caroline
Noah, Jacob and Elodie
Noah, Jacob and Lucy
Noah, Jacob and Annabel
Noah, Jacob and Hannah

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 15:26

If you like Isabella and Theadora, have you considered Isadora?
All those will definitely get shortened though. My DC have 2-syllable names, I wasn't that worried about shortenings and nicknames but there is something nice that they're usually called the 'correct' name.

How about Charlotte?

toolazytothinkofausername · 08/01/2021 15:20

Noah, Jacob and Sadie.
Noah, Jacob and Chloe.
Noah, Jacob and Evie.

@partyatthepalace I love Isabel/Isabella but there's so many Isabel/Isabelle/Isobel/Isabella/Bella/Belle and it really puts me off.
Hence why I liked Arabella as slightly different without being unusual.
I have also pmed you about Anna. Hope you dont mind.

Portia

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 15:09

Love all these

Seraphina - think it's usually ph in UK - it's the name of a cousin and she never shortened it

Arabella - a lot of Isabellas aren't shortened (tho a lot are obviously)

Theodora also lovely, but I think somehow it is almost certainly going to be shortened, so you'd want to try and direct it - I like Teddy and Dora/Dorey, but not Thea

Going back to work now...

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 15:05

Hmm I think depends on the surname, I think it could be simple and smart if it's something like eg Anna Grant, Anna Kerr - I think it maybe needs quite a hard letter to start the surname, Anna Smith, Anna Ross doesn't sound so good.... thank you for distracting me from work...

Anon0987654321 · 08/01/2021 14:49

@NoSquirrels if you say Noah and Anna they sound very similar. That's more my worry with Anna than being 2 syllables. Sorry I didn't explain very well.
I do like your suggestion of Erin though. That's a very nice name. Not too girly either.

@WildCherryBlossom Phoebe is nice but it runs into the surname and also I'm terrible at spelling it and I've seen so many awkward spellings, that would put me off I think.

@SendHelp30 I like the suggestion of Eva. Maybe Eva Juliet? Could be a potential for the short list.

I also like Theodora, Serafina and Arabella. I know it goes against my principle of having a name that's less likely to be shortened. And I'm worried I may regret it if the name ends up being continously shortened.

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 14:39

Anna is pretty but again like with Eve/Eva I'm a bit unsure eith the short one syllable surname

But it's a 2-syllable name and so are your boys' names - and a lot of the names you are considering like Rosie/Lyra...

BabyMoonPie · 08/01/2021 14:39

Rachel! My nearly 4 year old DD is Rachel so I am very biased but it's clearly the best name on the thread! 😉

WildCherryBlossom · 08/01/2021 14:38

Juliet is really not so unusual. Thanks to Shakespeare everyone has heard of it. But you are right there aren't loads of them around. I know 3 - a teenager, a 30 something and an elderly lady and it really suits all their ages. It's a very pretty name.

I also really like Lydia or Phoebe with your boys names (continuing the biblical theme).

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 14:37

I don't think Juliet is unusual. It's possibly less used now than it once used to be, but it is classic and lovely.

I also really like Lyra.

I don't think Rosie 'fits' with your boys names as well as some other suggestions. But how about Rosalie, or Rosalind? Both can be nicknamed Rosie.

Other short, classic names

Emma
Anna
Thea
Erin

SendHelp30 · 08/01/2021 14:33

My DD is Eva Rose with a 1 syllable surname - think White.. goes well.

Eliza is lovely.

Infact I’ve just realised all 3 of my children have the same syllables -
2 syllable first name - 1 syllable middle - 1 syllable surname
