Any views on the names Nicole, Lorna or Stella?

My DP also likes Sophia, but since it is so popular I am not sure in case she will be one of five in her class!

Nicole - quite like
Lorna - pretty and unusual. However the meaning 'forlorn' would make me think twice
Stella - nice although a little harsher than the other two
Sophia - best of the bunch

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 08/01/2021 04:14

Stella is having a revival, particularly in America according to an article i read yesterday, after someone else (maybe you on another thread?) posted about Stella and I thought it was lovely. I love it! Lorna and Nicole seem very dated.

MercyBodle · 08/01/2021 00:23

Not a fan of any of those particularly. This order though:

  1. Stella
  2. Lorna
  3. Nicole

However, Nicola, Laura and Estelle/Estella are lovely names.

maddsclairelouise · 08/01/2021 00:19

I really like all three names!

Stella reminds me of a bright, shining star!
Nicole has the very cute nicknames of Nikki and Nic!
Lorna - Would be so gorgeous on a little girl and very wearable throughout life! Very gentle sounding!

Lorna is my fav!

partyatthepalace · 07/01/2021 23:41

I like Stella, also really like Estella

Lorna quite nice too and quite unusual right now.

Nicole - nope, downmarket and old fashioned

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 07/01/2021 23:20

Lorna - love it

june2007 · 07/01/2021 23:14

I like Lorna. (and all the Lorna,s I have met have been younger then 50.)

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/01/2021 23:13

Lorna is my ultimate favourite name, and I really like Stella, Nicole is okay.

Ellmau · 07/01/2021 22:48

Stella and Sophia are both lovely.

Nicole and Lorna both feels a bit dated, especially Nicole.

Laura?

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 07/01/2021 22:25

The most mixed comments ever!

Firebird83 · 07/01/2021 22:22

Stella is the only one I like.

Nicole - mum in her 30s

Lorna - dinner lady in her 50s

jay55 · 07/01/2021 19:22

They were all mean girls in my school in the 80s.

PepsiArcade · 07/01/2021 19:15

I like Stella but Nicole and Lorna both sound quite dated to me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/01/2021 19:11

Sophia is gorgeous but with all the Sophie's and Sofia's too, is too popular for me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/01/2021 19:10

I really have a soft spot for Lorna. Some people consider it a little dated, but I don't think it's ever been popular enough to date. It reminds me of Lorna Doone, so I find it a beautiful, romantic name.

Stella is also really pretty - I prefer the elegant Estella, but Stella's nice.

Nicole is my least favourite - feels a bit 70/80's to me.

Onlinedilema · 07/01/2021 18:38

I’ve always liked Stella. I don’t know any either. The other 2 are ok , Nicole is my least favourite I can’t explain why.

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 07/01/2021 18:35

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, really helpful!

They're all really old-fashioned

Peachbubble · 07/01/2021 17:54

I like Lorna, makes me think of Lorna Doone. Nicole is OK, but will probably be shortened to Nicky, which I don't particularly like. Not keen on Stella, not sure why.

hiredandsqueak · 07/01/2021 17:35

I like Lorna a lot, I don't mind Stella, not keen on Nicole as that seems dated to me.

Bobbybobbins · 07/01/2021 17:35

I think they are all ok

Prefer Estelle or Estella to Stella

Iona could be another option if you like Lorna?

KirstenBlest · 07/01/2021 17:32

Nicole - dated, not keen anyway
Lorna - Lorna Doone, depends on accent
Stella - like because it was a friend's name

20viona · 07/01/2021 17:29

Dreadful

SionnachRua · 07/01/2021 17:28

I actually really like Nicole. Bit dated maybe but will come back strong and absolutely a million times better than the frilly names that trend.

Lorna is very pretty also.

Don't like Stella, makes me think of beer.

Definitely not Sophia, that's so generic.

emmathedilemma · 07/01/2021 17:26

I think they're all quite late 70's / 80's sort of names, or at least everyone I associate them with is in that age bracket. I don't mind Lorna or Stella but I can't get that awful Renault advert out of my head for Nicole!
