I was born on the 80s/90s cusp and I've only come across two Claires in my life time (compare that to the dozens of Katies, Emmas, Hannahs, Ellies, Emily's etc...) I think it's a great name, the single syllable gives it a sort of boldness and strength but it still has some softness with the vowels. I don't love Louise though.

For middle name, what about something like:
Claire Elizabeth
Claire Susanna
Claire Tamsin

This months 80s is next years trend! Claire is lovely and classic, pick the middle name that suits and don’t worry about it!

SillyOldMummy · 08/01/2021 10:08

I love Claire Louise, it has a lovely rhythm to it.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 08/01/2021 09:49

Claire Elise reminds me of the music Für Elise.

I don’t love Claire. Do you like Clara? I think if you’re determined to use Claire it needs a middle name to bring it up to date and freshen it. Claire Louise is very 80’s.

RandomMess · 08/01/2021 09:15

Not Louise, Claire Louise was the name back then we had 5 Claire Louise' in our French Class.

CarrieCat · 08/01/2021 09:10

Don't think St Clare was born in the 70s

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/01/2021 09:01

Also to those saying Claire is too 70s, it might be to those in their 40s but it will be refreshing at primary school now, in a sea of Ella's and Evie's.(which are also lovely names but going through a popular cycle).
Names ebb and flow in popularity and when you choose one for your child you have to block out all the external shit and just think about how it sounds to you - do you think it's beautiful? Does it go with your last name?

Scarby9 · 08/01/2021 09:01

Elise or Louise
My first thought from your title was Joanne.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/01/2021 08:57

How about Claire Valentina?

ghislaine · 07/01/2021 23:57

Claire Josephine
Claire Albertine
Claire Evangeline

partyatthepalace · 07/01/2021 23:52

Claire Louise is nice enough but very 1970s

The rest are a bit grim

Claire is a nice classic name, I think would be set off better with a longer middle name - Claire Elizabeth, Claire Francesca etc

ghislaine · 07/01/2021 23:46

Claire Frances
Claire Victoria
Claire Margaret or Marguerite

I prefer the spelling Clair which seems to me a bit more chic.

Keepyourdistance000 · 07/01/2021 23:44

Claire Jane

Claire/Clara Valentina
.
Claire Pamela

BakeNVac · 07/01/2021 23:33

I know four Claires and not one of them was born in the 70s

40s, 50s, 80s and 90s

Sunbeam18 · 07/01/2021 23:12

I'm a Claire Lindsey

HeronLanyon · 07/01/2021 23:02

Pure love for
Claire here. Really surprised it gets mixed reviews.
Sounds beautiful looks beautiful and feels kind of French/Irish.
Classy. The absolutely opposite of ‘dull 70s’. IMO Grin (I am not one - began to feel as though I was over enthusiastic there)

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 07/01/2021 22:37

Claire is an awful name sorry but its just so bloody 70s. Can't you use Claire as a middle name. I know so many Claire's, I had 7 Claire Louise's in my class when I was at school and no I'm not making it up. 7 in just on class !!

@TootDeLaFroot

Please don't call your baby 'Claire", it's a really shit 70s name, from someone who was there. Plus I've been a teacher for over 20 years and have only ever taught 1 Claire. Don't do it!
As one, I would say 🖕🏻
KirstenBlest · 07/01/2021 13:00

It depends on the accent. In some accents it's just a noise.

Jonahroo · 07/01/2021 12:49

Claire is lovely and my very on trend Canadian friend has just called her dd this so it must be making a comeback. Claire Elise sounds lovely.

SomewhatBored · 07/01/2021 12:44

Louise.

Lovely to hear you are choosing Claire - it's a beautiful name.

MindyStClaire · 07/01/2021 12:39

I like Claire Elise. Claire is a lovely name, and will surely be super popular in about ten years. I was born in the 80s and have Louise as my middle name and I do like it, indeed I passed it on to toddler DD for her middle name. Claire Louise is just a bit too dated though, and Claire Elise sounds lovely.

KirstenBlest · 07/01/2021 12:29

I think Claire Louise would be assumed to be the mother or grandmother not the baby.
