Lavender?

What do we think of Lavender as a name for a little girl? I'm honestly not sure if I really like it or if it sounds too long and pretentious. Our other daughter is called Honor Florence, does it fit well? I'm not pregnant yet but we are trying to conceive and I'm already thinking of names.

No. Will be Lav as other people have pointed out and I think it's quite a ugly harsh sounding name.

I love it. My only association is with that cute kid from Matilda.

I don't think children would pick up on lav, because they don't tend to use the word lavatory. Louise or Louis, shortened to Loo, is more obviously toilet-related, and in real life I don't think it'd be an issue.

I do like it but I wouldn't use it personally. The nickname of "Lav" or "Lavy" does put me off it as I think that's a very real possibility whether my daughter likes it or not.

Nice in theory, as is Lavinia, but the shortening to Lav would be enough to put it into middle name territory only for me.

Lavender would work as a middle name. No one would be abbreviating it then. It reminds me of lavender fields in Provence...and Lavender Leigh (Chalet School).

I don't like it, I'm sorry. It's too uptight iykwim. Prefer Violet but I don't think that goes particularly well with Honor.
Hope? Maybe a bit too samey with Honor.

It matches Florence well, so I would avoid problematic shortenings and use it as a middle name and find find a simpler name to balance it as you did with your first DD.

Something like Heloise or Eleanor?

It's a no from me simply because it will inevitably be shortened to Lav which makes me think of lavatory.
