Magnus, definitely!

VenusClapTrap · 04/01/2021 14:32

Magnus is fabulous.

resm · 04/01/2021 11:08

Think Oscar is the best of your list. You might like Isaac or Oliver.

CakeRattleandRoll · 04/01/2021 09:53

Oscar and Magnus are my favourites, but also really like other suggestions of Casper, Felix and Otis.

Others:
Elias
Cyrus
Rory
Calvin
Rufus

PrimeraVez · 04/01/2021 09:22

I think we have similar taste - I also like:

Miles
Toby
Gabriel
Raphael

(FWIW, I have a Leo and a Caspar)

littlemisslozza · 03/01/2021 17:39

Freddie (Frederick or Wilfred perhaps?)
Oscar

Don't like Magnus or Albie I'm sorry.

How about
Wilfred (Wilf)
Bertie (Albert)
Sebastian (Seb)
Raphael/Rafferty (Raffi/Raf)
Matthew
Alexander/Alistair (Alex/Ally/Xander)
Tristan
Monty (Montgomery)

Love Magnus - such a handsome, stately name (though I personally dislike nn Gus)
Frederick is great - a popular but not overused classic with a friendly nn.
Oscar and Albert (Albie) are too retro/vintage trendy for me.

@TheVanguardSix

I used to love Magnus but the one I know is an a-hole in the making.

So... Frederick.

Suggestions:
Rex
Otis
Humphrey
Hugo
Leon
Clement
Richard
Fergus
Finn
Seamus
Hector
Henry
Lorcan
Barnaby
Oswald
Aelred
Roland
Jude
Adrian

Ahhh thank you! Love Henry and Hector, but we have an H surname and I’m not too big on alliteration. Really like Otis and Jude from your list too!

I like them all, in this order:

  1. Magnus
  2. Oscar
  3. Albie/Albert
  4. Freddie/Frederick
newmum332 · 03/01/2021 11:31

Like them all except Magnus, it feels so try hard to me.

PattyPan · 03/01/2021 11:20

In order of preference
Frederick
Oscar
Albert (although I’m not keen on Albie - much prefer Bertie)
Magnus - I don’t like this one, it’s a bit poncy

YoniAndGuy · 03/01/2021 11:15

Either Oscar or Magnus are great. Both full names, both have good, snappy short forms (Mag/Mags, Osc), both classic. I'd go for Magnus but both are excellent.

Freddie/ Albie - just A.N.Other of the tidal wave of slightly childish, baby-boy ish 'ie' ending names. They will very much date him to this era, especially Albie (interchangeable with the ubiquitous Alfie and Archie). Just not as good.

Not a fan of Casper, mainly because I don't think Caz or Cass is a good nn for a boy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2021 10:44

Freddie (full name Frederick) - love Frederick. It sounds so handsome and distinguished but I don't like Freddie at all. It sounds whiny to me. I do like Fred though

Oscar - lovely name, dh vetoed because of Oscar the grouch though

Magnus - gorgeous, strong, handsome name

Albie (full name Albert) - dislike sorry

Jericha · 03/01/2021 10:35

Magnus is ace

glassshoes · 03/01/2021 10:34

I personally would rule out Albie as I can't imagine it suiting throughout life for most people.

Magnus and Oscar are both great.

I think with Freddie I would go with Frederick with Freddie as a nickname, so your son has a name that doesn't seem abbreviated for job applications etc if needed. So it depends on how you feel about Frederick? I think I prefer both Magnus and Oscar.

Kindlethefourth · 03/01/2021 10:28

Like all of them except Oscar

Magnus is very strong and fits in with the liking for scandi culture

Albie is cute

Freddie is the more popular out of these 3. Wondering if this name may have peaked in popularity a couple of years ago?

Chilldonaldchill · 03/01/2021 10:14

Magnus is my favourite.
I like Oscar but it's very popular.
Albie would be my second favourite because the one I know (age 16) is very nice.

Scoobydoobydo · 03/01/2021 09:57

@Scoobydoobydo

Allie is too Eastenders
Oops Albie
IckleBear · 03/01/2021 09:57

Just thought of Silas

kat0107 · 03/01/2021 09:55

@Scoobydoobydo

Casper will always be the ghost for me
I suspect this is the feedback that I might get from my husband too - Felix was dismissed on account of it being the cat!
