Dot

We have decided on Delyth for our daughter.

DH had a dearly loved grandma called Dorothy, known as Dot, and would like to honor her by adding the name as a middle name. We agree that Delyth Dorothy is a bit too much, but does Delyth Dot Surname sound like an email address? Is that even a problem?

TIA

Yeah she would have a lifetime of going "no, dot as in D, O, T"

Delyth Dorothy sounds really cool (and would give her the option of the retro nn Deedee if she wanted!). I think it's always nice to honour loved ones with the middle name choice (but Delyth Dot does sound like an email address).

Dot in the middle of a name sounds awful sorry

I think Delyth Dorothy is lovely.

Yes, Delyth Dot Surname does sound like an email address. When she’s older it will probably be her exact email address at work.

I know people don’t use middle names very often, but she’ll know her name sounds like an email address.

I think it's quite cool it sounds like an email address or web address

But as others have said just use the full name if that's the one you're wanting to honour. I don't even know my best friends' middle names I'm afraid to say. No idea if they have one or not

Can you add another middle name in between?

Delyth (short name) Dorothy (surname)

eggandonion · 02/01/2021 19:47

Just use Dorothy, I don't think very many people even know that I have a middle name!

FelicityBob · 02/01/2021 19:47

Yes it sounds a bit odd but I don’t think I’ve ever said my children’s full names out loud to anyone so it doesn’t really matter

It does sound like an email address to me I’m afraid. I don’t think Delyth Dorothy is too much, unless your surname also begins with a D?
