Dot

We have decided on Delyth for our daughter.

DH had a dearly loved grandma called Dorothy, known as Dot, and would like to honor her by adding the name as a middle name. We agree that Delyth Dorothy is a bit too much, but does Delyth Dot Surname sound like an email address? Is that even a problem?

TIA

I love Dot, but agree with others that it doesn’t work as a middle name, but what about Dotty?

Delyth Dotty Surname

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 06/01/2021 19:44

Dot as a middle name absolutely sounds like an email address.

What’s wrong with Delyth Dorothy? It’s lovely.

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 19:40

that sounds absoloutely adorable.

if i have a child in the future i'd be considering naming them dorothy just for the excuse to call them dot.

CharlieBoo · 06/01/2021 19:39

I would use Dorothy.. I love that name.. my dd is Daisy and dot is her nickname xx

Marcipex · 06/01/2021 09:24

Dot doesn’t work, unfortunately.
I’d just use Dorothy.

Both names do sound quite dated to me though.

Jenda · 04/01/2021 20:12

Delyth Dotty?

Viviennemary · 04/01/2021 19:19

It's dire. Dorothy is nice.

Firebird83 · 04/01/2021 19:16

Delyth Dorothy sounds better than Delyth Dot.

DacwMamYnDwad · 04/01/2021 18:13

You could use Derith Dorothy to get more alliteration. Derith isn't used much.

DacwMamYnDwad · 04/01/2021 18:11

@PrivateParty, Delyth was very popular in Wales in the 1950s and 1960s.

bridgetreilly · 04/01/2021 16:17

I would use a third middle name:

Delyth Joan Dorothy
Delyth Rose Dorothy
Delyth Claire Dorothy
Delyth Joy Dorothy

MimiDaisy11 · 04/01/2021 15:03

I'd use Dorothy - it's ok together and like others said you never really use your full name or have is called out loud.

PrivateParty · 04/01/2021 14:44

I've never heard of delyth to be honest..

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/01/2021 14:01

I prefer Dorothy nn Dot to Delyth. Delyth is a 60-yr old's name.

Kittykatmacbill · 03/01/2021 17:54

I think Delyth Dorothy is lovely as is Dorothy Delyth for that is worth. One dd1’s friends name is Dot and it’s fab just like her!

partyatthepalace · 03/01/2021 17:47

Yes it sounds like an email address!

Delyth Dorothy works fine. Or if you don't like Dorothy fancy it up to Dorothea?

lemonsquashie · 03/01/2021 10:27

Dot isn't a name. It's a punctuation mark

strawbmilk · 03/01/2021 09:49

I really like delyth dorothy. My DD has 2 of her great grandmothers names and it's doesn't go but works. She's 3 now and her middle names have only ever been used at her christening so far!

EdgeOfACoin · 03/01/2021 09:46

Dot doesn't work as a name in its own right.

Delyth Dorothy is okay, as long as your surname doesn't include another 'th' sound.

Nordman · 02/01/2021 23:32

I think Delyth Dorothy sounds really pretty, go for that!

burritofan · 02/01/2021 20:45

Love the name Dot! Could you do Dot Delyth Surname, but call her Delyth day to day? I know a couple of people whose first name is purely for the birth certificate to honour a relative but their known-as name is the middle one.

Unicant · 02/01/2021 20:42

I think Delyth Dorothy sounds lovely! I dont think using just dot works really.. it does sound a bit like an email.. maybe you could use dotty or Doro?
But personally I'd go for Delyth Dorothy, I dont think its too much at all.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2021 20:39

Use Dorothy. Dot doesn't work.

Chilldonaldchill · 02/01/2021 20:36

Delyth Dorothy sounds lovely.

Whatsyourflava · 02/01/2021 20:29

I like both Dorothy and Dot
