Harry or Frank

Just that really. 2 weeks to go so at crunch time and we can't decide between these two!
Middle name will be Douglas and surname is very non-offensive 2 syllable name that would go with either.

So which would you choose and why?

Also to say though I am generally a big fan of longer more formal name on BC in this instance I really don't like Henry or Frances so please don't suggest these names as alternatives! Have considered Harrison and Franklin on BC but not sure how these surname names will date/not sure if feels a bit try hard?

Frank! (Biased, as someone close is called Frank). There are an awful lot of Harrys around...

pilates · 03/01/2021 16:19

Harry Douglas

Frank the wank was said at my school

Franticbutterfly · 03/01/2021 16:12

Frank

partyatthepalace · 03/01/2021 13:39

I like both but Frank a bit more unusual.

Understand you not liking Francis (I love Frances as a girls name but don't like it for boys) - but Frank really does look like a nn to me so I'd go for Franklin which is I think is lovely - nice history and sparky.

MercyBodle · 03/01/2021 12:12

I love both Harry and Frank. Harry flows better with the lovely Douglas in the middle, but Frank is still fine with it. I'm not a great fan of Frankie though - I'd just stick to Frank. I do like that Frank is less used than Harry, though Frankie is in the top 100 I think, so probably not a lot in it. Not much help here...
I agree with you about not putting Henry or Francis on the birth certs. Harry and Frank are well established names in their own right and definitely are good for the full name.

Danu2021 · 03/01/2021 09:49

I love Douglas / Dougie!

Danu2021 · 03/01/2021 09:49

I like Francis / Frankie

Harry ok but it is just too common.

kat0107 · 03/01/2021 09:46

I really like both of them - if popularity is a consideration, then perhaps Frank, but Harry is a great name too.

lemonsquashie · 03/01/2021 09:25

Harry is better than frank. Frank seems a bit Chav these days

Douglas is awful: sorry. Don't give him that as first name. It's ugly.

Angel2702 · 02/01/2021 21:37

I like Frank, similar sort of name but not as popular. Harry is extremely popular. I wish we’d used it as it’s a family name.

Kote · 02/01/2021 21:32

Harry

Mol1628 · 02/01/2021 21:30

Frank Douglas

Firebird83 · 02/01/2021 21:22

Frank Douglas

MondeoFan · 02/01/2021 21:09

I like Frank
Too many Harry's about
I like Frank Douglas or Douglas Frank

littlemisslozza · 02/01/2021 20:43

I know a few boys called Frank and it's a great name. Quite cool as they grow up and could be 'Frankie' when little.

I love Dougie though. Also know a couple.
Harry is just too common for me, there are loads of them.

june2007 · 02/01/2021 20:39

Francis is nicer.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 02/01/2021 20:39

Love Harry. Frank seems more like a sausage dog these days...

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2021 20:37

I like Harry very much.

I just don't like the look/sound of Frank.

SacreBleeeurgh · 02/01/2021 20:35

Of those two, Harry all day long.

Though I also infinitely prefer Douglas (and Dougie/Doug...)

hughthehedgehog · 02/01/2021 19:17

Thank you for the replies ☺️ appreciate it

I know it's strange and doesn't stand to reason when considering a pretty old fashioned name like Frank but for some reason though I like it as a middle name and is a family name for DH I just can't do Douglas as a first name - he quite liked it so did try but I either think of an old grumpy Scottish man or otherwise just find it a bit of a weak name for a boy- no reasoning I think it's just personal experience! There's been quite a few of my preferred names OH has vetoed for similar - no reasoning but just personal experience feelings.

Appreciate all tastes are different though & mean no offence!

Also forgot to say would probs use Frankie as a nn along with Frank whilst they're young

I'd go for Frank. Harry has really spiked in popularity recently around my area. I do know a little Frank but he is adorable so it makes me like the name more. I don't think you need a longer name but if you opt for one I prefer Franklin over Francis.

SpeckledyHen · 02/01/2021 17:29

Frank(ie)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/01/2021 17:25

And yes, Harrison and Franklin are part of the surname trend and will likely date more than Harry.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/01/2021 17:23

Of the two, Harry. While I much prefer classic Henry (as I generally like traditional names), I struggle to get past the vision of an old man with the name Frank (or the image of TV's Frank Spencer). Harry is such a well used/common name that I don't really have any preconceptions - it suits most boys and shouldn't date.

Swingometer · 02/01/2021 16:56

I'd choose Frank over Harry but agree with others that Douglas is a great name

Douglas Frank?
