I like traditional and classic names and these are two of my favourites.
Grace or Alice - which should I chose?

Alice, unfortunately ( name wise ) we had two boys. GD has Grace as a middle name. I like both names.

PoodleMoth · 02/01/2021 16:21

Not keen on either but marginally prefer Grace

Quercus3 · 02/01/2021 14:21

Alice is lovely

Bluesername · 02/01/2021 07:29

I prefer Grace. Alice seems dull and fusty to me.

Grace

I've taught so many lovely girls called Grace.
I think Alice is more surprising.

Alice

Virtue names are hard to pull off.

I like both but of the two I'd pick Alice. As well as being less popular currently (both as a first name and as a middle name, Grace is very well used at the moment), Alice is more classic - in fact I would call it the ultimate English traditional girls name (it's been very popular since the 13th century, only Elizabeth has been more consistant as Alice fell out of the top 100 in the 1950's -70's).

Alice also has a greater variety of images and namesakes (various princesses, authors and actresses etc as well as the Lewis Carroll character), whereas for Grace I think many people still picture Grace Kelly.

Alice by far.

Grace has that hard 'gr' sound that I really don't like.

Another one here who really dislikes Alice. Can't quite put my finger on it. It's a bit wet and weak sounding.

Also, I don't get why some people rave about it, all "ooh it's so timeless and beautiful" yet nobody seems to be like Alison? More or less the same name IMO.

Unfortunately I don't like Grace either. Agree with pp's that say it's not a very attractive sound and quite clunky. Also agree with the Gracie-Mae comment.

Sandcastles09 · 01/01/2021 20:06

Alice! But I love Grace too!

Alice.
I don't have daughters, but I think it's a lovely name.
Grace not so much. Also I think there's a problem with names that are characteristics. What if Grace isn't at all graceful, Joy feels miserable, Patience is impatient etc?

F0M0 · 01/01/2021 19:55

Grace! The name Alice is too ..... I don't know, I just don't like it.

Firebird83 · 01/01/2021 19:48

Alice. Grace is overused.

pilates · 01/01/2021 18:55

Grace
I too think of the same song as Ceecee
