Albie or Arlo ?

I really like them both! I think I prefer Albie a little tiny bit more just because I know more arlo's than Albie's! X

Wow can’t believe some of these comments 😂😂😂 I love both of these names! Personally I think some people are very dull and boring with their name choices. I wouldn’t want my child to have the same name as 5 plus others in their year. I do not feel it’s pretentious in any way. And I have no idea how people are saying Albie is awful! Both of these names are well liked in real life. I would ignore the comments and go with what you love. My grandad was called Albie and it’s very much a real name. I also know a 30 year old Albie who is a solicitor and has no problems with his ‘cutesy’ name. Also all names are ‘trendy’ to a degree. They come back round in popularity. At least it’s not going to be on the same top 20 list for 5 plus years 😂 Neither are super trendy, awful names at all. Ignore 💙

Could not agree more as I previously stated I named DS1 Archie after my grandfather who was just Archie.
He was a solicitor and his “nicknamey” name did not hold him back at all in his life.

OP pick your favourite! These names are unpopular on mumsnet but actually very well liked in real life

Arlo is better of the two. Albie is awful, I keep seeing it on here and really hate it, unless maybe a nickname for Albert or Alban?

I know a friend's child called Albie and I think it's cute but not if it will be overused.
As a previous poster said, 'Armand' would be lovely but I've never heard it.... that will be part of the reason I like it.

I think Albie is lovely.. I love the name Albert so would use that on BC, could also use Bertie as a nn then.. agree also about no one will bat an eyelid at these names in working environments..

Yes I think they are unpretentious, simple and maybe even 'overused' I would never say either are pretentious names.

This is why I take umbrage with the name threads. They are very "little England" & often ignorant if not racist. I work in a professional environment in the city. It's very diverse & multicultural with all sorts of names Ive never encountered before but then I don't just work with old white English men nor would I aspire to.

I can’t believe people think in 20 years time when these babies are ‘young professionals’ that there will be no unusual names. Times are changing, wake up. Not to mention we live in a multicultural society where there will be many different names, it won’t just be Henry and George in the office.
This is why naming boys is so hard, as others have said, because of dated views like that and constant referral to future jobs.
I’m sure there are plenty of Freds, Jacks and Johns in prison too.

Not keen on either. Arlo is the brand of our CCTV & Albie is just right being teased.... I'll be alright/albiealright... I'll be there/albiethere etc

Another thing I meant to add to my post just now is please just choose the name that you like. You'll always find people on large forums like this who love and hate the names you suggest in equal measure. We had one wildcard name on our list when I went into labour which we actually ended up using, there were only 13 other boys given that name in the UK last year. I have no doubt if I posted it here I'd get loads of "Don't do it OP" but we love it and don't regret it at all 😊

I like both, but would go for Arlo as it will work better for a teenager, I think.

I love both, and maybe I'm bonkers but Albie made my boys name list ^because I'm a Conchords fan and I love their performance of Albie 😂

Pretentious to me would be attempting to use names associated with the upper classes to impress or to even names from another culture to show affiliations or to make a point. Arlo and Albie are currently very trendy popular names and so I see them as the opposite of pretentious. Pretentious to me would be a pretty stereotypical tarquin or octavia

Sorry. Albie is a terrible name. Your child won't thank you for that one. Arlo is getting very overused. There are so many better names for boys. I'm old school and believe the classic names are more dignified; James, Thomas, George, William, Frederick etc. They can all be shortened.
