Husband is Danish.
Any suggestions?
We like ones which end in 'ben' in particular - like Torben.
Thankyou!

Top Danish baby boy names www.mammashop.dk/blogs/nyheder/drengenavne-ideer-2020

@MeringueCloud

Do you want Danish names? There is no such thing as "Scandinavian names".
I mean, sort of. By Scandinavian names, I'm referring to the fact that there is a lot of overlap between, for example, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian names - many of each can be found the same or in variant form within one of the others. Thanks :-)

I am English/Norwegian/Danish origin Smile
Ossian - yes it's used in Denmark and also Sweden I think.
Different tastes show through name choice, some like modern, some like old fashioned. The world would be boring if we all like the same.

Cecily42 · 01/01/2021 20:06

I am Norwegian. Scandinavian name threads always make me giggle as people suggest some names who are really old fashioned and some I have never heard of (Ossian? Is that a Danish name?).
It’s like Norwegians discussing British names and top of the list will be Sharon, Tracy, Kevin.... just names rarely given to babies born today.

Nordman · 01/01/2021 13:35

I love:
Arve
Erlend
Erling
Espen
Ossian
Sverre
Valdemar

Some of these are probably more Norwegian sounding than Danish but may give you some inspiration.

Because it's a bit like saying: "My DH is Welsh, we'd like a British name. How about Siobhan?"

Scandi / nordic names, (unless regional versions of more recent germanic or biblical names, for instance; Niklas, Mattias, Joakim, Tomas etc) often sound weird when spoken 'in English' and it can be tiring to keep explaining and correcting. Very few truly nordic names work well here, but if you've the patience, here are some ideas:
Agne, Ambjörn, Arvid
Björn, Birger, Bo, Bertil, Bengt, Börje
Dag, Dan
Erik, Ebbe, Edvin, Egon
Göte, Gösta, Gunnar, Gustav
Hans, Henrik
Ivar, Inge
Jon, Jonas, Jan
Kalle, KÃ¥re, Kjell
Lars, Love, Loke, Leif
MÃ¥ns
Nils
Ove
Per / Pär
Rune, Rolf, Ragnar
Sune, Sven, Sverker, Stig
Ture, Tryggve, Truls, Torbjörn, Tage
Uve, Ulrik
Vidar, Viggo, Valdemar, Valter
Your Danish DH will be able to help with pronunciation as the vowel sounds and stresses are usually totally different, and will also sound different in Danish compared to my Scandinavian native tongue.

@Avbsm

Only one I can think of is Esben
Thanks! Open minded to those not ending in ben also :-) Esben sounds like s-bend which is part of a toilet, do you think kids would bully him? Eek.
