Hello, I'm wondering what people think of Saxby. A friend mentioned the name to me and now I can't get it off my mind. I'm not sure whether I like it or not and can't think whether I've heard it before.

Other names I like are
Jace
Roscoe
Abel
Simon
Timothy
Axel
Fred

Ellmau · 23/12/2020 19:03

I like Simon.

Erictheavocado · 23/12/2020 18:59

I only know it as a company who used to be famous for their pork pies. I really can't see it as a first name at all. Sorry.

Sunshineandflipflops · 23/12/2020 18:58

You have a few “wacky” names, and then Timothy and Simon, which are very 1970’s. E only people I know with those names are my age (early 40’s) and I don’t think they are retro enough to make a comeback yet (if ever) and I like traditional names.
I don’t like any of them, sorry.

LassFromLeedsWithALustForLife · 23/12/2020 18:57

Genuinely the worse name I’ve read on here. Your list is schizophrenic. The names Axle and Saxby (and I use the word “names” loosely here) shouldn’t be on the same list as Simon and Timothy (which are also terrible names, just in a different way). Out of everything you’ve got there Fred is the best but that’s like saying “of all the rancid smelling glasses of milk, I want to drink that one most”.

I apologise for my bluntness but someone needs to tell it to you straight on this one. It’s a human being you’re naming and Zowie Bowie and Dweezil and Moonunit Zappa couldn’t even pull those names off and their parents were legendary rock icons.

Please buy a baby name book and get some more mainstream inspiration.

MiddleClassMother · 23/12/2020 18:55

Sounds like a town lol. Sorry. Simon is great though, It's time for a comeback.

BuzzingTheBee · 23/12/2020 18:55

Roscoe ok
Abel nice

BuzzingTheBee · 23/12/2020 18:53

Awful sorry

TheNortherner · 23/12/2020 18:51

Your child and their life, but reminds me of Saxby lighting
www.saxbylighting.com good lights though.

Simon is due a come back, nice name.

MrsGrindah · 23/12/2020 18:47

Sounds like a dogs name - sorry

Midlandsmum23 · 23/12/2020 18:43

It's the name of a village in Leicestershire, but not suitable as a baby name imo.

NeonSparkle · 23/12/2020 18:37

I hate saxby and jace.

MagicSummer · 23/12/2020 18:37

Have you not heard of Saxby's Sausages, OP? Nooooo!

Not very nice.

I’d go with Timothy.

SparkleClaws · 23/12/2020 15:00

Saxby Smart!

There a series of children's books based around this character.

fairydustandpixies · 23/12/2020 14:36

🤢

RockyTigerScarf · 23/12/2020 14:34

Thank you for the feedback. Abel, Simon and Roscoe are my favourites on the list, aswell as Fred but I'd have a longer form of the name on the birth certificate if I went with Fred as I agree that sounds unfinished.

Yes to Timothy, Simon, Frederick, Jason. Timothy and Simon are such great names.

Abel is a real name, but I just can't warm to it. Ditto Axel. Roscoe gives me gangster vibes, sorry (not sure why).

No to Saxby for me. It makes me think of Saxon.

Go with Timothy.

Franke · 23/12/2020 13:11

Sounds like something you'd buy in Ikea. Sorry. There are better names on your list.

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 23/12/2020 13:02

I think at school poor saxby will be plagued with kids shouting 'sexy' as a joke . Poor saxby

showgirl63 · 23/12/2020 12:47

Saxby?
movingonup20 · 23/12/2020 12:43

It's a surname and a place name. Give your kid a proper name for their cv, if you want something unusual just have it as a nickname. And Jace is a shortening for Jason

wowfudge · 23/12/2020 12:41

Saxby is a place in Lincolnshire. I wouldn't saddle a child with it as a first name. Roscoe reminds me of the Sheriff in DoH too. Simon and Abel are okay - both Biblical names.

ShowOfHands · 23/12/2020 12:38

Saxby Hall is the setting for David Walliams' book "Awful Auntie". Owned by the Saxby family. It's a surname at best.
