I'm quite taken with it, do you think it is due a revival?

I'm in my 50's and sadly my parents called me Wendy and I have always hated it. Although, I am not "wet and frump", I think there are just so many lovely names, I can't understand why anyone would choose it!

CharlieBoo · 26/12/2020 22:24

Oh good lord no x

Justcashnosweets · 26/12/2020 21:17

I like it. I know 2 Wendy's and they are both lovely people.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/12/2020 21:08

I knew a wendy when I was a kid.
Her sister was Dee.
I think it is quite a sweet sounding name.

MooseBreath · 26/12/2020 10:01

My mom is Wendy. The name on her birth certificate is Gwendolyn.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 26/12/2020 01:16

Wendy is the Karen equivalent I’m afraid - not good connotations! Have you never heard the phrase “you’ve been Wendy’d/wendied”?

Snowy0w1 · 26/12/2020 01:16

What about Winnie !? Much nicer.

Snowy0w1 · 26/12/2020 01:15

not keen.

And not because of its frumpiness, more the way it means to be pushed out of a group by one covert scapegoating narcissist.

MrsMop1964 · 26/12/2020 01:12

Makes me think of my mums friend who is 70+ now., or Wendy Craig. The only young (26) Wendy I know of is a member of the kpop group Red Velvet.
I don't think it's awful though.

Bluesername · 26/12/2020 01:00

Not keen I'm afraid.

HeadlessGummyBears · 25/12/2020 12:19

@TheWashingMachine

I know, my DS aged 9 said it is an old lady name but I like the story of Peter Pan and My Grandfather lived next door to JM Barrie and bought me the book before I was even born.
I think Wendy is a lovely name. You should go for it especially as it has a special connection for you.
Peaseblossom22 · 23/12/2020 15:02

I know an 18 year old Wendy and I have a very good friend Wendy ( mid fifties ) . Myself I think it’s not the newest but I think it might be due a revival

MondeoFan · 23/12/2020 15:00

I like Gwendoline as the full name then call her Wendy. But she might decide she likes Gwen as an adult. I like Gwen

Twizbe · 23/12/2020 14:58

There was a Wendy in my year at school. Only one I've ever met. She was really nice.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 23/12/2020 13:35

Sorry, really don't like it.

It's really old fashioned, and being called a 'Wendy' was the equivalent of being called a 'Karen' back in my day.

Not that I agree with using a name in that way... but for that reason alone, I wouldn't.

badgerhead · 23/12/2020 12:58

My young adult dd is Wendy Yvette.

Notcoolmum · 23/12/2020 10:56

I know 2 lovely Wendys so think of the name very warmly.

@windthatbobbin

Call her Gwendoline and use as a diminutive?
Great idea!

For crying out loud don’t saddle her w Wendy as a full name. It’s wet and frumpy.

MountDoom · 23/12/2020 00:51

There are some names that will never make a come back. This is one of them.

Apologies to all the Wendy's on this thread!

Floralnomad · 23/12/2020 00:36

No , it’s awful .

ZenNudist · 23/12/2020 00:31

Noooo

Takethereigns · 23/12/2020 00:30

Terrible Wendy bird from Peter Pan
