Half Indian/half English boys name

Not sure what we having yet but trying to think of names already. We have quite a few potential girls names lined up that fit the bill of sounding both Indian and/or English but boys names are so much harder.

I quite like the nn Ash but can't think what I'd like the full name to be! I don't love Ashwin and that's about all I can think of.

Also not Raj or Hari. I love Rohan but that's already a name in my close family so can't use it.
**@meera454* @Trailing1* all lovely names but still a bit too... indian (BTW I'm the Indian one out of me and my husband so I can say that 😂)

Kallum is interesting!

I really liked Kiran/Kieran but husband isn't overly keen on that.
@Luckyelephant1: “too Indian” WTF.

I’m Indian too.... seriously do you hate your culture so much that your child cannot have an Indian name? How will you cope WHEN your child experiences racism?

The time before your child arrives might be a really good time to reflect on how you will raise your son, and the values you will I still in him

Peregrina · 19/12/2020 12:18

Kerpal -- known as Paul for short?
Vikram - Vik? Not written down people might think it was short for Victor.

BTW Idris and Dylan are Welsh.

yeOldeTrout · 19/12/2020 12:16

Dashiell -> Ash nn?

FestiveStuffing · 19/12/2020 12:12

Asha is nice.

Also, I'd spell Aryaan like that, not with one a because then it looks like aryan, like the race of people.

Luckyelephant1 · 19/12/2020 11:39

Thank you all, so many fantastic suggestions. Whatever I like DH doesn't and vice versa Xmas Hmm and anything we both like still doesn't seem to be 'the one'. We both like Aaron but that's already a name in DH family too argh. Aryan is nice but don't like the connotations associated.

We are still leaning towards Ash I think but we both agree it should be a nickname rather than full name so still pondering what the full name could be!

Here's what we've thought of:

Ashok- nope
Ashwin- it's OK but not the one
Ashton- again OK but no
Ashley- too English and it's a girls name IMO
Ashish- bit old school
Asher- I love it DH thinks its nice but not the one . Also I think it's a pretty prominent Jewish/Hebrew name. It's so close to what we are after though but not quite there iyswim.

Aaron/Arun
Kiran/Kieran
Jay

We had this problem, we couldn't find anything we liked that fit both and in the end we went for English names. DHs family are fully Indian and some of them have names like Chloe, Daniel, Ryan etc so we just went with names we liked. I hope you find something Smile

winterbabythistime · 19/12/2020 10:22

Arjan?

Blibbyblobby · 19/12/2020 09:55

I like the name Vivek. It’s not an English name but it sounds like it could be, if you see what I mean.

JMG1234 · 19/12/2020 08:47

I also know an Ahren (may not be spelt correctly), but pronounced Air-ren (I think this is also how Aaron is pronounced)

JMG1234 · 19/12/2020 08:45

Another suggestion for Dylan. Or Ariyen.

marly11 · 19/12/2020 08:25

Mine all have second names that are Indian. Hari and Arun are both names that will only present as Indian when they are written down of course but sound English otherwise. As mixed race myself, years ago, as I child I didn't want to 'seem different' so wouldn't then have wanted a name that seemed so. Thankfully times have changed so that my DC are proud of their heritage but still may not have wanted their Indian names to be their first names as they themselves don't look obviously Indian so I think they like them as their middle names.

PlantPotting · 19/12/2020 08:18

I really like Aran
Probably for the best you can't use Rohan, there's a lot of Roman, Rowan.... type names around the last couple of years. Both top 100 and still rising up.

Nell96 · 19/12/2020 08:10

I have a friend called Ravi - always really loved the name.

Chilldonaldchill · 18/12/2020 22:56

@Chilldonaldchill

I know lots of couples who are Indian/English - they have sons called: Max (3) Sasha Rohan Zachariah (Muslim Indian) Kinnar Freddie Aaron Cailan
Remembered some others! Dilan Gabriel Raphael Luca
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/12/2020 22:42

Pranav. Great name

howrudeforme · 18/12/2020 22:40

Samir is nice.

I’m indian/English and quite old. Back in the day I don’t think couples focussed to much on trying to represent all their cultures.

I was given a old fashioned (but now fashionable) name based on a famous (now dead) Indian actress.

My DS well we just tried to give him a name that could be pronounced in both English and his dad’s language (not an Indian language). Quite a boring ‘80s name 🤣🤣🤣 but it filled the criteria.

frustrationcentral · 18/12/2020 22:38

I love the name Hari

Swearwolf · 18/12/2020 22:32

I absolutely love the name Ash! Does it have to be short for an Indian name or could it be an Indian shortening for an English name? Asher is lovely.

Derelictwreck · 18/12/2020 22:25

The three I know are Kiran, Rohan and Dilan, so maybe something ending in 'an'!
