Naming a little tiny human is so difficult!

DH and I agree on the below names. Any thoughts or additional names to consider.

Julia
Nancy
Hannah

Joy - LOVE
Julia - pretty but a little dull
Nancy - super cool
Hannah - feels dated and dull
Anna - pretty but again, a little dull
Penelope - nice, love nns Penny and Nell
Erica - don't really like but don't hate
Margot - also really cool!

I'd choose Nancy, Joy or Margot

laurielo · 19/12/2020 21:09

Penelope and Margot are my faves

danascully96 · 18/12/2020 20:07

Joy - not into virtue names
Julia - gorgeous! One of my favorites! I much prefer Julia to Juliet because the “ette” feels forced, whereas Julia is effortlessly musical. I know Julias who’ve only ever been Julia, not Jules ❤️
Nancy - hmm, not a fan, but it does make me think of the 60s and big hair, so that’s appealing... to me, it’s very dated and nasally, though 😔
Hannah - vanilla name; somewhat wet and nasally
Anna - vastly better than Hannah, but still nasally. I do love the nn “Annie” as it’s so romantic (although also somewhat nasally, I make an exception for Annie)
Penelope - never been a fan. “Pene” means penis in Spanish
Erica - I simply don’t like it
Margot - same as Erica

My favorites would be Julia and then Anna simply because you get the nickname “Annie.”

Otherwise, here are some suggestions:
Laura - romantic, strong, & underused
Lily - happy and lilting
Charlotte - “Charlie” is a cute nn
Maria (rhymes with gross things, but is oh so musical like Julia)
Susannah (glamorous and “Suki” is a cute nn)
Gwyneth - probs too tied to Paltrow

Martha has been vetoed by DH unfortunately.

As has April which I love.

I don't dislike any of your names but my favourites are Joy, Julia or Erica

I prefer Martha to Margot

I'd avoid Hannah/Anna if you like in a region where people tend to drop their Hs

Sexnotgender · 16/12/2020 09:23

If we used Penelope we’d most likely call her Penny day to day.

Elsa. Be okay if you have surprise twins with Anna being on your short list.WinkGrin Elise. Elizabeth Heidi Martha Emilia. Vivienne Meredith Harriet
Love most of the names suggested but DH said no😫

Particularly love Vivienne but not to be 🙁

Joy - I like it, it's short, well known but uncommon. Lovely meaning

Julia - not a fan sorry

Nancy - I really don't get the love for this at all. Was used as an insult when I was growing up

Hannah - lovely it. Its a classic and not used often atm

Anna - love it, though slightly prefer Hannah. Love the shortening Annie

Penelope - not a fan, feels a very big name to me

Erica - I like it. Also like Estella which I feel has a similar vibe

Margot - it's OK, I'm seeing it everywhere atm though. I much prefer other names on your list.

I would go with Hannah or Joy :)

PlantPotting · 16/12/2020 07:47

Love Anna Hannah Margot and Nancy

PlantPotting · 16/12/2020 07:47

Julia gets shortened to Jules. Dislike

missmouse101 · 16/12/2020 02:31

Julia is lovely, not keen on the others and Margot is dreadful (frumpy, geriatric and looks like Maggot.)

MercyBodle · 16/12/2020 02:28

I love Julia, Anna and Erica. Stylish names to suit anyone.

I like Penelope, Hannah, Nancy.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/12/2020 01:06

Elise.
Elizabeth
Heidi
Martha
Emilia.
Vivienne
Meredith
Harriet

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/12/2020 01:03

Joy. Like the meaning and the vibe but not the sound.
Julia. Neither hate nor rate.

Penelope. I tend to blow hot and cold with this name. At the moment I'm cold.
Nancy. I should like the name it's fits my criteria of sweet short pretty and frilly but I can't abide it.
Hannah. Love this
Anna See. Hannah.
Erica. Is very pretty. However I'd automatically assume it was after a relative named Eric. DD had a friend Erica who was named after her grandad Eric.
Margot. Not a fan of Margot, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 16/12/2020 00:49

I don't like Nancy or Margot but I do like the rest, especially Joy and Julia.

Firebird83 · 16/12/2020 00:44

Anna, Julia, Joy or Erica

EileenGC · 15/12/2020 20:50

I love Julia, Hannah and Anna. They're timeless and very international, which would make life easier for her in the future if she decides to live abroad.

Never considered Joy, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. It's short, sweet, but also very adult.

I used to love Erica when I was a child, but I have a second cousin called Erica that I really don't like. As a PP said, it's crazy how that kind of thing can affect your choice!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/12/2020 20:05

I'd choose Anna or Julia from your list - but I think Anna would edge into pole position, because it's a real timeless, classic name and that's my taste. Congratulations on your impending arrival 💐

Sexnotgender · 15/12/2020 20:02

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

You might also like the similar classics Laura or Lydia, or the less well used Lara, Claudia, Helena or Antonia.
I love Helena or even Helen. DH has vetoed them.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/12/2020 19:53

Anna and Julia are my favourites - both classics, feminine, elegant and internationally used. Hannah is also a nice, traditional name (I just prefer the simpler/more streamlined Anna).

I'm less keen on your other choices - Erica and Joy feel slightly dated to me, while Nancy, Penelope and Margot feel a bit trendy.

Krazynights34 · 15/12/2020 19:21

I love Joy!
All your names are lovely.

1940s · 15/12/2020 19:18

Joy and Hannah stand out as the most unused recently - Margot has soared in Popularity and Penelope seemed to have peaked recently too.

Sexnotgender · 15/12/2020 19:14

I prefer Juliet too but DH doesn’t like it🙈

OP posts:
galaxy9 · 15/12/2020 19:10

Joy is lovely
Like Julia, much prefer Juliet/Juliette though?
Penelope is quite nice, as long as you don’t mind the nickname Penny, which I think is quite sweet
Love Margot
Not a fan of the others, Hannah and Anna are fine but a bit meh
