DD4 on the way ...

Have already used (am going to jumble them to try not to out myself!) names, including middle names, that include:

Rose
Isobel
Eleanor
Alice
Orla
Edith

DD4 will be Tess, most likely.

I like, but don't fully love, the following combinations:

Tess Phoebe (but think Phoebe Tess flows better - DH not keen)
Tess Abigail (worry it feels a little frumpy)
Tess Imogen (I think it's ok)
Tess Elizabeth (DH hates Elizabeth)
Tess Madeleine (DH thinks of McCann; I think he is being ridiculous)

Any other suggestions?

I second Tess Alexandra. Although I do agree Tess is very hard to find a middle name to flow well with it. I’ll try my best for you though.
Tess Elizabeth
Tess Evangeline
Tess Frances
Tess Olivia

Chilldonaldchill · 17/12/2020 12:09

Tess Cordelia would work well too!

ineedbanoffee · 17/12/2020 11:34

From the lists you have all suggested the ones that stand out to me are

Tess Eliza (although that sounds slightly like a weapon - the Tesselizer :D )
Tess Gabriella
Tess Evelyn
Tess Elspeth
Tess Beatrice

Much to consider - thanks so much!

Thanks so much - some really beautiful suggestions here! Will work through them all!

I really hate Tessa even though I like Tess a lot.

familyofaliens thanks - I won't be choosing a middle name to help my beautiful DD overcome the nothingness of her first name though!! Each to their own!

Tess is fabulous! There is something so delightful about a monosyllabic girls name.

Lizadork · 16/12/2020 11:03

I'd use Tessa and Tess as the nickname

Tessa Amèlie
Tessa Ellis
Tessa Otterlie

BiBabbles · 16/12/2020 08:53

I second Galliano's idea that maybe Tessa or Teresa (which both are a diminutive forms of) might make it easier to find a balancing middle name. Tessera (tess-say-ra) might also work well.

If you like Ophelia but want to avoid the literary link, maybe Ophea or Ophira might be good alternatives.

Of your suggestions, I think Tess Abigail is best. Abeni and Adalet are similar but possibly less frumpy.

Also adding in other names starting with vowels:
Annora
Alexis
Esperanza/Esperanta
Irena
Olivine
Onesta
Orinthia

Have you considered Tessa shortened to Tess? It’s easier to balance Tessa with a middle name. For the most part people are of course suggesting long names to balance Tess out but your existing names are all simpler.
Having said that can I add
Josephine
Harriet

FamilyOfAliens · 16/12/2020 08:00

It’s a shame he’s chosen a single syllable name ending in -ss because that means it will just merge into any middle name that starts with a vowel. And I also feel Tess is a bit of a nothing name. What is it he likes about it?

Having said that, how often will you say the two names together? Hardly ever, I would have thought.

Maybe choose a middle name with a bit of something to it, in case she doesn’t like Tess and wants to change when she’s older.

florascotia2 · 15/12/2020 17:09

Two French names that are quite pretty but not too unusual. For a middle name, one has much more freedom:

Tess Amandine
Tess Corisande

I 'd also quite like Tess Melisande (= Millicent) or Tess Melusine, but only if you're OK with the legends.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 15/12/2020 13:17

It's marvellous when you both instantly agree on a name but it doesn't always happen does it. I think by DC4 we'd struggle to agree too. Smile

ineedbanoffee · 15/12/2020 12:43

tonightstheteriyakikitchen DH has pretty much chosen Tess so I've got free rein on the middle name really. I do like Tess a lot but there are other things I'd probably have chosen first. It's just the name on which we most agree.

notarabbit we've already used Rose elsewhere in our family names...

minipie thanks - I keep looking up longish names beginning with vowels as I agree that works best.
