Harper Rose or Amelia Poppy?

Mumtobeee2020 · 15/12/2020 00:45

Can’t choose between these two names for our daughter due soon!! Please help!

💛 Harper Rose
🧡 Amelia Poppy

Worried Amelia may be too popular but also worry with Harper being less traditional...
What are others thoughts? :)

Amelia has got to be my most disliked name. It means 'absence of limbs' in the medical world and sounds dreadful. Uh-MEALY-uh. Mealy is a really horrible word. It's all I can hear, and not a remotely pretty name. Rose is an extremely common filler name, as pp have said. My own daughter has it as her middle name and I deeply regret it! What a waste of a chance to choose a great name.

Harper is nice but only if you are happy with all the Beckham connections/comments.

MercyBodle · 16/12/2020 02:08

Amelia Poppy is best.
Harper is also extremely popular so I wouldn't swap Amelia for Harper based on popularity.
My favourite of all your names is Rose as a first name!

Firebird83 · 16/12/2020 00:31

Amelia Poppy. Rose is overused as a middle name.

MrsBungle · 15/12/2020 23:14

I like Harper Rose or Rose as a first name.

Amelia is ok. Don’t like Poppy, it’s so twee and cutesy.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 15/12/2020 23:13

I really like Amelia Rose too. (Sorry!)

DramaAlpaca · 15/12/2020 23:10

Not quite what you're asking, but Amelia Rose.

Harper is horrid and Poppy is very twee and silly sounding.

user1493494961 · 15/12/2020 22:10

Amelia is nice, Harper is awful.

Nell96 · 15/12/2020 19:38

I really like Rose or Rosa as a first name - beautiful and classic. I really dislike Harper, think it's a bit naff and will date badly. Amelia is pretty in a frilly kind of way, but very popular. I've always thought Poppy was a bit of a silly name - cute on a little girl, but ridiculous on a grown woman. Iris or Lily are much better if you want to go down the floral route.

LittleTiger007 · 15/12/2020 14:09

I can imagine an old Harper as the famous novelist Harper Lee died in recent years... very mature in years.

newmum332 · 15/12/2020 12:12

Harper is very popular where I am and IMO very likely to date. (I think similar to Jodie and Carly from the late 80s/90s). Plus I just can’t imagine a 40 year old Harper.
Amelia is popular but suits all ages and won’t date with the times.

Almostslimjim · 15/12/2020 12:05

I know 3 little girls called Harper Rose (aged 3 and under).

I know loads of Amelia's (5 or more) and loads of Poppy's (8 or so) but no Amelia Poppy that I know of.

DD was going to be Poppy, until my friend had a little girl 2 months before me, and called her Poppy.

LittleTiger007 · 15/12/2020 09:57

Harper does not scream Beckhams to me, instead it evokes Harper Lee and the classic book To kill a mockingbird. It’s a classy name.

LittleTiger007 · 15/12/2020 09:55

Both are lovely. My favourite is Harper Rose. Or Have you considered Amelie Rose? (A bit more unique than Amelia)

mammmamia · 15/12/2020 09:43

Amelia Rose, don’t like Harper and Poppy just sounds silly. Sorry.

landoflostcontent · 15/12/2020 09:11

Amelia Poppy or as IthinkIm suggests Poppy Rose

Ithinkim · 15/12/2020 09:07

Harper just screams Beckham to me so I'd think you were big fans.

Amelia is too common, if I were you I'd go Poppy Rose or Poppy Amelia

Autumnismyseason · 15/12/2020 09:04

Not keen on Harper. ‘Stop harping on’ is a common phrase where I live so makes me think of a whiney child

Whatsyourflava · 15/12/2020 08:43

Harper Rose is so so beautiful
That gets my vote

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/12/2020 08:14

@CeeceeBloomingdale

Neither, Harper is a surname to me and I don't like what Amelia means medically. Poppy Rose would be my pick using those names.
I'm a doctor and I had to remind myself of the meaning. It's incredibly rare, so I wouldn't let that put you off.
Bupkiss · 15/12/2020 08:06

Rose.

PillowPrincess · 15/12/2020 08:05

Poppy Rose

MsTSwift · 15/12/2020 08:03

Amelia is so overused it’s dull now. Anything but that

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/12/2020 07:59

Both nice, but I like Amelia Poppy the best.

whoami24601 · 15/12/2020 07:58

I'm liking the Amelia Rose love on this thread- that's DD8's name Grin
