Everley and...

Name changed for this as obviously outing.

We have just found out that baby 2 is a girl! We already have a 2 year old DD called Everley. She has two middle names and our surname is double barrelled. Would quite like a name that fits well with this but I would prefer to avoid other “ee” names so not eg Everley and Darcey. I quite like names ending with an “uh” eg Anna. However I’m conscious that Everley is fairly unusual and we partly picked it because we didn’t want her to have a really popular name (both me and my DH were known as “Emma S” or “Adam J” etc at school and hated it). Therefore it would be a bit weird to have a very popular name for DD2, feels like we need to have something else unusual to match. There are a few names that I like that fit the brief:

Vita
Winter
Ada
Frieda
Fritha

However my husband doesn’t like any of them. It feels like any slightly unusual name that I suggest he says is ‘too weird’ so maybe him liking Everley was a bit random (it was number 800+ in the baby name list ranked by popularity the year she was born!) and he actually prefers much more traditional names. I think he’d be happy with something more popular like Freya or Ava despite what he’s said before about wanting an unusual name but I wouldn’t really. I want them both to have a slightly unusual name. Any ideas? We’d also give 2 middle names, I don’t mind these being more popular as Everley’s are too.

Ps. I know Everley is a bit of a marmite name on MN, please no negative comments about her name, we have already named her! Thank you.

@LouiseTrees my DH agrees with you, but he actually said it makes him think of the Ramones too!

I’m not sure what popularity it is now; it’s definitely gone up a bit in the last year or two (think Channing Tatum or someone named his baby Everley and it got quite popular in the states so has now over here a bit too) but it’s still definitely outside the top 200.

@BabyGirlNumber2

Oooh I like Thea! And *@YoniAndGuy* Ramona is awesome but has already been vetoed by DH for being too weird apparently.
Sorry but Ramona not a great name either. It’s like Raymond but tried to make it into a girls name unsuccessfully. Also I can’t not sing “ my Ramona” to the time of my Sharona
YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:01

Also think about short forms

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:00

That's great about the surname. But honestly - sounds like he needs to open his mind, simple as. What popularity is Everley - show him the stats. Make him come up with 10 names outside the top 100 that he likes at least.

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 22:59

Hmm, well it's not weird, it's definitely more usual than Everley, so perhaps there needs to be a conversation where you say his options are to open his mind a bit or you will be making a final decision.

BabyGirlNumber2 · 14/12/2020 22:59

@YoniAndGuy good point, when I ask him which names he DOES like he just suggests a couple which he knows are way too popular for me eg Olivia.
Unfortunately I can’t play the surname card as he did actually change his name too when we got married (we double barrelled our names) and he’s still patting himself on the back for that 5 years on Wink

Sorry, didn't comment on your other names! Only Vita and Winter go with Everley I think - and both I think go well. You need something a little bit retro but austere - no Victorian chambermaid names, and nothing too modern or cutesy.

Don't let him just sit there and veto everything - HE needs to come up with a list, with the proviso that yes, it needs to have an unusual edge to be in the same ballpark as Everley. He can't? Then it's your final decision. Do they have his surname? Then it's definitely already your final say...

BabyGirlNumber2 · 14/12/2020 22:56

Thanks @LouiseTrees I don’t think I really like a lot of more ‘modern’ style names and neither does DH. From that list I do quite like Maura, Bronwen (but I have a cousin called that), Anya and Harriet.

Thea is a lovely name.

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 22:55

Everley and Melissa
Everley and Thea
Everley and Ramona
Everley and Sabrina
Everley and Ariadne
Everley and Linnet

LouiseTrees · 14/12/2020 22:52

I’m sorry but they are all too old fashioned. Some alternatives purely off the top of my head. Maura, Alyssa, Alyssia, Alessia, Bronwen, Bea, Candice, Delilah, Ziva, Marina, Maren, Maven, Anya, Enya, felicity, Genevieve , Harriet, Imelda seriously I could go on.
