I love Francis nn Frank, never Fran.
Would call him France over Fran
Just hate Fran.

Love it. Francie, Frankie and Fra are common nicknames where I’m from, but also just Francis as a strong, standalone name for all ages.

I have a Francis. I get lots of compliments on his name and it has never been shortened to Fran/Frankie/Franco. I don’t like the nicknames that derive from Francis

I didn’t know any when I named my Francis but in the last year or so it’s become quite popular.

Not a fan, another short version is Franco. I cant get my mind away from Trainspotting's Begbie, Robert Carlisles character who was fairly crazy.

But I'm scottish and that reference is definitely 'of its generation'!!!

It's adorable and was on our list. And I agree with pp if it gets shortened make it Fran.

I love it. I wanted it but DH wasn't keen. As long as it gets shortened to Fran, not Frank.

Good name.
St Francis = with his respect for the natural world ('Brother Sun*, Sister Moon'; birds feeding from his hands etc) Francis could be something of an eco-hero for young people today.

Don't want to get too heavy, but his imaginative, consoling view of death as kindly, familiar 'Sister Death' has inspired many writers. I don't know what she believed, but reading about the much-loved writer Helen Dunsmore's early death has reminded me of what Francis said:
