DH asked me to post this thread lol , because we cannot decide and he is so sure his favs are just of better taste. We don't know the sex yet. He likes the names I like , and I like his. But "my" names just seem more beautiful. PLEASE DECIDE FOR US :

Levi or Daniel
Harper or Mary

Thank youuuu

Don’t like any of the names really, but Daniel and Mary are better.

Chilldonaldchill · 12/12/2020 21:24

They're so different.
I don't like Levi or Daniel at all - Levi is too "jeans" and Daniel is so dull but I'd probably go for Levi at a pinch.
Mary is far and away better than Harper which is awful.

Randomrebel · 12/12/2020 21:03

Only like Daniel sorry.

JanewaysBun · 12/12/2020 20:59

Daniel and Mary although don't love those.
Levi is doing time in prison for fraud.
Harper's mum has an Instagram account of her and is trying to make her a "thing"

SugarCanes · 12/12/2020 20:09

Mary or Daniel

BiscuitDrama · 12/12/2020 09:11

Oh I just hear Levi as being Old Testament. Smile

YoungScrappyHungry · 12/12/2020 06:53

I second (third? Fourth?) that Levi is incredibly chavvy, sorry. Up there with Kayden/Austin/Jayden.

It's also Levi Bellfield and an anagram of evil.

FixItUpChappie · 12/12/2020 04:10

Levi and Harper

donttouchmyhair · 12/12/2020 04:03

Levi and Harper. Levi is on my list too

whichwallywhere · 12/12/2020 03:59

Daniel and Mary.

Boymumzy · 12/12/2020 03:35

Only like Mary from that list. If I absolutely had to choose between Levi and Daniel I would pick Daniel.

Aebj · 12/12/2020 03:20

Daniel and Mary

mathanxiety · 12/12/2020 03:17

Sorry, hadn't seen Nina -
Unless your baby has a chance to be a willowy, ballerina type, I would avoid Nina.

mathanxiety · 12/12/2020 03:14

Tristan - awful; wet in the UK, and in the US tends to be trashy.
Matthew - on the whole, meh.
Austin - YYY to Austin, can't go wrong, great name.
Manny - seriously???

Zoe - gorgeous name.
Hannah - very lovely name.
Leah - very nice.
Cadence - A big fat thumbs down. It's the female version of Kayden/Aiden/Jayden and all the rest.

From this list, Austin and Zoe are my favourites. I'm not keen on any of the boy names apart from Austin, and I like Hannah and Leah from the girl list, but with Zoe well ahead of them both.

Aliferous · 12/12/2020 03:09

Levi and Harper.

Providora · 12/12/2020 03:02

Austin and Hannah are my picks! Though, like a pp, I prefer Anna.

Ihateezoflora · 12/12/2020 02:59

I think Mary is SO cool! I imagine a really funny, tough, fiesty little girl called Mary!

Harper is okay.

Daniel is a bit 'meh'.

Levi is okay but a lot of people say it is chavvy.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/12/2020 20:21

3.Tristan - pleasant, slightly quirky but still well known
1.Matthew - lovely and classic but not overused now
5.Austin - too trendy for me
6.Manny -No, I've only heard it short for Manfred, but it's not nice sound.
2.Daniel - nice enough, classic name
4.Levi - it's okay, but slightly reminds me of jeans and sounds strongly biblical to me

5.Harper - too trendy, will date

  1. Mary - some find it dull but has some wonderful namesakes. May is a nice nn.
5.Zoe - not my fave, but there's nothing wrong with it (prefer Eve which has the same meaning)
  1. Hannah - prefer Anna but it's nice enough
  2. Leah - classic and simple but not too popular
7.Cadence - No, sounds a bit tacky to me (if you want a musical name use Aria or Allegra) 1.Nina - gorgeous, simple, elegant but not overused
lottiegarbanzo · 11/12/2020 19:51

Infamy, especially with an uncommon name.

I don't think Levi and Leon are alike at all. I'd think more of Isaac or even Ludovic.

unmarkedbythat · 11/12/2020 17:52

The history of the name Levi is worth reading if anyone is interested.

This thread has got me thinking, why do we associate some given names with people who have done terrible things and not others?

Unanaganaive · 11/12/2020 17:46

Calmondeck

I loved the name Levi for about 10 years ( I watched a movie when I was about 13/14yo and fell in love with it)

Calmondeck · 11/12/2020 15:22

How long have you loved Levi? Would you consider Leon? Imagining that both will get shortened to Lee in the playground.

newmum332 · 11/12/2020 15:12

Daniel and Mary 100%
Levi and Harper will date terribly IMO

unmarkedbythat · 11/12/2020 14:44

I'm in the UK and do not immediately associate the name Levi with Bellfield.

Copernico · 11/12/2020 14:38

I am in the UK (but not British, as I’ve already stated). I googled but still don’t get the association to chavs. I think if most posters made that association it’s one thing, but mostly people just say it’s awful, with no explanation. But maybe I just won’t get it and that’s ok.

Besides, my point wasn’t intended exclusively about that one name. I don’t even have to read a thread to know what MNetters’ reactions to most names will be, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Of course popular names are popular for a reason - more people like them than the unpopular ones. I just find it a bit sad how narrow-minded people seem to be about names that are even remotely out of the box.

That said I’m not the type to ask strangers about what to name my kids. Husband and I just picked what we liked best.
