There are NO names we love

So DP and I have a list of names both like, but definitely don't love - Theo, Archer, Axl, Quill or Quinn.

DP loves Dominic but I don't
I love Leo or Jack but DP doesn't.

Any suggestions for us to consider (and hopefully both love...)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh and if you think this is a tactic to get you to cave and agree to one of his (bloody awful apart from Dominic which is... ok) names because he nixes everything else, nip that now by saying that just for the record this child will not be Parker, Dominic, or Kayden, so we are now MOVING ON to new names and he either engages fully, or you choose alone.

YoniAndGuy · 09/12/2020 12:09

Ok so nuclear option - is this baby going to have his surname?

If yes, it's your choice for the first name. The end.

Kit
Kai
Jake

So the updated "meh they are OK names" list is : Axl, Hunter, Issac.

I worry Hunter would be lazily pronounced where we are from, most people would say "hun-er" instead of "HUNT-ter"

DPs list : Dominic, Parker, Kayden
Mine : Leo, Jack, Arlo, Rourke.

@Calmondeck

I’m with you *@OnNaturesCourse*, pregnant and cannot come up with any names that we can actually picture giving our baby. Is it your first? It’s our first, and we’re wondering whether it’s just so hard to imagine having a baby... (Even though we’re thrilled)
@Calmondeck it's our second, but first boy. We had no name for our daughter as we didn't know the gender, but she sort of named herself within 5 seconds lol. Boys names are much harder, a lot of them I can picture on little kids but not on adults if that makes sense.

@NellietheNumpty

Why don’t you try a family tree and see if you had any ancestors with names that call to you.
@NellietheNumpty we've done that, that's where I got Jack and our chosen middle names. Nothing for a first unfortunately.

Elliott - it's not too short and can't really be shortened. Not uncommon but not often used either x

We do like Grayson, but not 100% as it would likely get shortened.

The "Dom" of Dominic is what completely puts me off lol.

I'll definitely have a look at the Book of Names.

DP has offered up Blake as a name but there's just something about it Im not keen on, his other option was Blaise. I've not come up with any today lol.

If he likes Parker, just had a friend with a little boy Grayson?

Mark
Luke
James

I like Dominic best of all. That is a classic name which will stand the test of time and 'Dom' as a diminutive is lovely.

Caspianberg · 08/12/2020 16:26

If you like Theo, and Arlo and Milo:

Hugo, Amos, Ellis, Nico, Luca

Himawarigirl · 08/12/2020 16:21

I think boy’s names are hard and I totally agree with you about names that regularly get shortened like Timothy/Tim, Nicolas/Nic. Lovely names but I’m just not a fan of the shortened version and SO many boys names are like that. I wouldn’t say my dh and I really, truly loved either of the names we chose for our boys before they arrived. We liked them and agreed on them (no small thing!), but once they were it has become impossible to think of them as anything else and we love the names. Just sharing as a name can be ‘the one’ without feeling like it is beforehand. Not sure I ultimately got the names from there, but the Penguin Book of Names is a manageable length to go through in full and pull out any you notice and then compare notes.

TeenPlusTwenties · 08/12/2020 16:11

John
Ian
George

Can't shorten them. Infinitely nicer than the names on your shortlist, and suitable for adults too. Classics.

OnNaturesCourse · 08/12/2020 16:06

We're still stuck lol.

If you are hovering around Leo and Dominic how about
Benedict
Gabriel
Michael ?

YoniAndGuy · 08/12/2020 15:34

Parker is baaaaaad.

Silas?

OnNaturesCourse · 07/12/2020 22:28

Only suggestion so far DP has kinda liked is Parker - but I'm not keen on it. I love Arlo though
