Expecting a 2nd boy soon, big brother is James. Would like a name that works in French but has a Scottish link. Current favourites are Alexander and Max. Any suggestions or opinions very welcome as not 100% sure!!

I know several wee French boys called Cameron.

Mopani · 09/12/2020 22:53

Colin
Cameron
Finlay
Lewis

ScottishLassie91 · 09/12/2020 15:48

I'd go with Alexander. Its currently our top pick for a boy as well with potential middle name of James!

Antonin · 08/12/2020 14:25

You can’t do better than Alexander, which has always been a favourite of mine.
Andre though French has been assimilated as almost the English version of the French for Andrew.

MoChridhe · 08/12/2020 11:20

Alexander
Malcolm
Duncan

Alexander and Max (or Maxim?) are great choices - both very international, with French/Scottish links and go well with James. I think Alexander would be my choice with James, personally - both Scots Kings.

The other obvious classic names (to match in style with James) with French or Scottish links are Louis, Henry, Charles, Robert and David.

Ellmau · 07/12/2020 19:10

Henry
David
Donal - prob more pronounceable by French relatives than Donald but perfectly legit Scottish name
Robert
Bruce?
Cameron
Lennox
Stuart

MyristicaFragrans · 07/12/2020 19:03

Alexander is a top name. Other Scottish kings:
William
Robert
David
John
Charles

Love the name Innes, no idea if it would work in french.

Douglas? Ivo? Conrad? Struan? Cameron?

Can't go wrong with Alexander though to be honest, it's a great name.

Ross

Scotstar · 07/12/2020 18:11

Andrew

Think it needs to be something a bit more classic, or boring, depending on your viewpoint!!

Thanks all. They are a bit more out there than my usual style! But really good to have some ideas although they are more Scottish than French generally!

Correction. Evan is an anglicised welsh name.

Yvan is the breton version.
