Edward?

I absolutely love the name. I don't know of any below 50. Also love Eddie, Ned, Woody nn's. DH is worried it's a bit boring, what do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

But what is an exciting name? Something that people have to be prepared for before it falls into the ear?
Is Rumpelstiltskin an exciting name?
Is Prince Calaf an exciting name?

Do smelling salts have to be passed around once the name has been announced.

I must declare myself totally baffled. Please help with examples of exciting names!

CharitySchmarity · 05/12/2020 21:48

I think I know more Edwards aged 10-20 than any older age group - the previous "wave" of Edwards would be about 100 by now! I quite like it, but I like Edmund slightly better.

Chilldonaldchill · 05/12/2020 21:40

I don't think it's boring. It's not exciting but not boring like James or Daniel.

shreddednips · 05/12/2020 21:23

I love it, but then I'm biased because I have one Grin I like it because there are so many nice shortening of it and he can pick the one he likes best when he's older. At the moment he is Ted. We gave him a really 'out there' middle name to balance it out.

Fortheloveoficecream · 05/12/2020 20:56

I love it but its actually quite popular where I am as I know 4 under 2!

MerlotChiantiMontepulicano · 05/12/2020 20:53

I like it. I have a Thomas.

I also like Henry, Alexander, James, William and Gregory.

MikeUniformMike · 05/12/2020 20:49

Woody, obviously.

LadyFelsham · 05/12/2020 20:07

Have I missed something? What the hell is an exciting name?

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/12/2020 19:55

I used to like it but it is very popular in my area for under 5s which has put me off a bit. Plus I dislike Eddie and they are all Eddie

finallychangedmyusername · 05/12/2020 19:51

I love it, and the fact that it has lots of nicknames (I really like Ted and Ned and love Edward in full).

If you went with a similar middle name (something regal perhaps) it may feel a like dull/predictable overall to some ears. E.g. Edward James, Edward Henry. (Personally I like these though!)

If you had something more unexpected in the middle that would be great IMO.

Edward Rex
Edward Stuart
Edward Roman
Edward Rufus
Edward Lucas
Edward Nathaniel
Edward Tristan
Edward Josiah
Edward Harrison

Maybe it's an age or regional thing but I can remember the term being used and tittering at Mr Allen's name.

TildaTurnip · 05/12/2020 18:36

I love it. I don’t think classics are ever dull. Plus it gives him options with lots of shortened possibilities.

mamablondie33 · 05/12/2020 18:35

It’s OK. Not my taste but its classic and won’t date etc.

Whatsyourflava · 05/12/2020 18:34

Edward is a classic gorgeous name
Not boring at all

AlfieandAnnieRose · 05/12/2020 18:33

@MikeUniformMike

I know a few.Ned is awful, Teddy is very popular, Eddie is fine. Woody is an euphemism for a stiffy, so maybe not.
There’s a Woody in my son’s class and it doesn’t make me think of a stiffy at all Hmm, just woody from toy story! I didn’t even realise it was a diminutive name of Edward. Anyway Edward is a lovely name not boring at all.
Chocolatechocolatechocolate · 05/12/2020 18:02

I think it’s a classic and can be shortened in any number of ways

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 05/12/2020 18:00

Old fashioned name, not for me but if you love it then go for it!

IndecentFeminist · 05/12/2020 17:54

It was on our shortlist. Teddy or Ned as NNs

frogswimming · 05/12/2020 17:53

I know a few of all ages, including in ds infant school. But I love it. It's timeless.

pilates · 05/12/2020 17:51

No, it’s a classic

Fishfingersandwichplease · 05/12/2020 17:45

One of my fave boys' names, not boring at all

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/12/2020 14:34

I love Edward - I first think of Rochester and Ferrars, so it seems quite a romantic but distinguished name to me, not at all boring. I also love that it has nearly a dozen nickname choices - I like the quirky Bear or Iolo myself.

I think it's more popular in the UK than in other countries because of it's long history of use here (10 Kings!) - it seems to have stayed in the Top 100 from the 1300's to the present day (it's one of the few "Old English" mens names still in regular use, along with Alfred and the other Ed- names).

VanityWitch · 05/12/2020 14:29

No, I like it and only know one child named Edward and one adult called Ed. Lots of Teddies around and Freddies, but not many Eddies! Ted can obviously be short for Edward, but it tends to be Theodore or just Teddy on the BC these days.

BackforGood · 05/12/2020 14:27

I think it is lovely.
It is also a timeless classic. I know Edwards / Ed /Eddies in every age group. Lovely name.

Quizeerascal · 05/12/2020 14:26

It's a lovely name not boring but classic imo. Theres a lot under 50 though ime, I've met a lot in my generation (early 30s) then a lot of primary school aged ones too. So its popular but for good reason, it's a good name.
