Is it boring?

Edward?

I absolutely love the name. I don't know of any below 50. Also love Eddie, Ned, Woody nn's. DH is worried it's a bit boring, what do you think?

Of all the classic names, it's one of the ones I like the least. It is quite boring, I also don't like Eddie - sounds brash - or Ed really.

Put it this way, I think Prince Edward really suits his name Grin

Something like Thomas/Tom sounds so much nicer, cool short form, just friendlier.

Antonin · 08/12/2020 14:11

It’s an ok name but not one I could get enthused about — yes a bit staid and boring along with Archibald, Arthur and Albert

FPS123 · 08/12/2020 13:38

I love it! I know an Ed, a Ned, two Eddie’s, all under 50. They are all really nice chaps.

BuzzingtheBee · 08/12/2020 13:38

Love it but be careful with Ned, has different connotations in Scotland

PlantPotting · 08/12/2020 13:35

It's not boring at all to me

It's a strong classic. I do get a bit bored of some of the fast rising trendy names but Edward has stood test of time. Great choice.

DollyParton2 · 08/12/2020 12:21

Extremely boring to me yes. Boring, plain and “sharp/ brittle ” sounding

DidgeDoolittle · 08/12/2020 11:17

I have a 28 year old Edward. He's known as Ed. I still think it's a lovely name. Never got tired of it.

KleinBlue · 08/12/2020 11:13

@LadyFelsham

Have I missed something? What the hell is an exciting name?
Thiago, Ezekiel, Buzz, Zephyr, Binx, Soren, Quartz, Wray, Elio, Yanai?

Of the classics, Edward is much the least boring, OP. (And I vote for Ned.)

Firebird83 · 08/12/2020 11:07

Lovely. It is popular though, a lot of people are using it to shorten it to Ted/Teddy.

Itsalwayssunnyupnorth · 06/12/2020 16:45

4 generations in my family who use varying nns! Aged between toddler and late 80s! It’s very a strong name that works for all ages!

Lulu1919 · 06/12/2020 16:39

Im a teacher there are quite a few around
Some Edward the odd Eddie and a few Teddy's

MimiDaisy11 · 06/12/2020 14:23

@CakeRattleandRoll

Love it. Have one!

Interesting that although popular in UK, it is far less so in USA, Australia, etc. Whereas other 'classic' (and potentially 'boring') names like Thomas, William, James, etc are popular throughout much of English speaking world.

It's not popular in all of the UK though. While England and Scotland have quite similar lists of popular names, there are some differences. Edward is one of the names which have quite a difference in rankings.

OP, I don't think it's boring. I think it's a nice name and has some nickname options too.

Nonamesavail · 06/12/2020 12:57

Bit boring but nice name.

VanityWitch · 06/12/2020 12:56

Yes, I just think it has a lovely, rounded sound to it. Oh well. Ds is something quite different. Generally well liked on MN, but people who dislike it seem to really hate it!

Twizbe · 06/12/2020 12:49

@VanityWitch

I also really liked Edmund for my DS. DH vetoed though, so think it must be quite marmite...
I love the name Edmund.

Ardenon · 06/12/2020 09:30

Yes very boring in my opinion.
But MN likes names I considered fuddy duddy and dull (so I am in the minority!)
I also find it an ugly harsh sounding name

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/12/2020 08:51

Loads of little Edwards around here - mostly called Teddy or Ed.

FippertyGibbett · 06/12/2020 08:48

Ted/Teddy

SJStrumFan · 06/12/2020 08:48

Thank you all for the encouraging replies to my post. You've reinforced my love for the name Edward! Hopefully DH will warm up to it and we will get to use it! So grateful, thank you!

I like it. I absolutely love Edgar though.

SJStrumFan · 06/12/2020 08:46

@LadyFelsham I didn't ask if it was exciting. I asked if it was boring. I think there probably are a lot of boring/plain names that we have all become so used to hearing. I was simply asking if this falls into that category essentially as DH described it as boring. Aside from you, most have answered giving lots of helpful responses. Please try to read the OP first.

Ed and Ted are good diminutives too (please not Teddy).

DramaAlpaca · 05/12/2020 23:46

It's not in the least bit boring. It's a strong versatile classic.

jessstan1 · 05/12/2020 23:44

A very good name.
