Ginny would call her phlegm.

meOwe · 03/12/2020 00:10

My DD is a Fleur 😊

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/12/2020 00:07

It's fine but in my accent its just the "slang" for flower.

Firebird83 · 03/12/2020 00:05

Also much prefer Flora.

Yika · 02/12/2020 23:49

I like it, it’s pretty but not frilly.

MercyBodle · 02/12/2020 23:44

I like it. Neat, understated and smart, rarely used but known. Sounds very attractive. I like its distinctness.

LolaSmiles · 02/12/2020 22:30

I like it. I've only met one Fleur and she was lovely.

merlotormalbec · 02/12/2020 22:29

My top baby name if I have a girl. I know of one who is in her late thirties. I love it

Megan2018 · 02/12/2020 22:28

I really like it, but had a pony named it, so it’s not a baby name for me-I just see a very pretty Welsh A Smile
It’s still a human name obviously- just in my head it’s always a pony!

Biggles001 · 02/12/2020 22:28

It's my middle name and I hated it when I was growing up. Having all the other girls sniggering because my name meant flower.
But now I'm older, I quite like it!!

DramaAlpaca · 02/12/2020 22:27

Whether I like it depends on the accent of the person saying it.

Guineapigbridge · 02/12/2020 22:25

No because it was a brand of tampons when I was growing up.

Nice enough name otherwise.

berrygirlie · 02/12/2020 22:20

Was reading up on the name and supposedly it's a brand of tampon in Aus (if I'm not mistaken, just a skimread).

Maybe Florence / Flossie?

Nell96 · 02/12/2020 22:16

It's a funny one - I dislike the sound, a bit like 'eurgh', 'bleugh' etc., as others have said - BUT I know two Fleurs, both lovely, and I've always thought it suited them both and sounded very classy and feminine, so honestly, I'm really undecided - not helpful, I know! Others names I like with a similar kind of feel include Camille and Marguerite. Can't stand Flora. There's also the Welsh Ffion, meaning Foxglove - very pretty.

Allfour1 · 02/12/2020 22:13

Hadn't considered the accent. Ours just sounds like blur, so Fl-er

Fleur was on my baby list. We didn't use it as I didnt like how it sounded in my Glaswegian accent! Sounded lovely in DHs southern accent!

WithASpider · 02/12/2020 22:11

I think it's lovely, It's my neice's middle name.

Alez · 02/12/2020 22:08

I know a Fleur. It's a nice name I think.

ArmchairCritics · 02/12/2020 22:06

I love it in theory - the coolest girl in school was a Fleur (15-20 years ago!!) but it’s horrendous in some UK accents, so I took it off my list fairly quickly...

berrygirlie · 02/12/2020 22:06

Also to add - reminds me of McFlurrie (but I think that might be my Scottish accent butchering things Shock)

Bat3 · 02/12/2020 22:04

Love it. I had a friend called Fleur at school 30 or so years ago. Never once heard the bleurgh connection.

Brighterthansunflowers · 02/12/2020 22:02

I really don’t like it, I just thing the sound it makes is ugly (bleurgh like PP said)

WinWinnieTheWay · 02/12/2020 22:01

I like the meaning, but it sounds too eurgh.

berrygirlie · 02/12/2020 22:01

Reminds me of Harry Potter too. Very pretty when written but a bit pernickety to say out loud. I can't decide between saying it more like "flur" or "flaeur" (sorry hard to demo over text!)

katy1213 · 02/12/2020 21:58

I also think The Forsyte Saga which dates me. Pretty name - but what if she's a snotty nosed kid with a face like a currant bun?
