What do people think of the name Axel? My OH has decided it's his favourite but I'm not sure. Is it to harsh sounding?

Any opinions or other suggestions would be really helpful thanks

Don't think it's a nice name at all.

emilybrontescorsett · 03/12/2020 22:02

No it was even Axl Rose 's real name. Don't they no it's a nice name at all.

PlantPotting · 03/12/2020 19:46

Ah that's a shame @ThirdTimeLuckyIHope

I think it's a lovely name. Could use as a middle name maybe?

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 03/12/2020 15:31

Thanks everyone as much as my OH likes it I just don't think it works for me so he'll have to have a rethink 😊

It's one of those names that's hard to imagine on your tiny newborn baby but would soon turn into a very cool name for a child and the teen/man that he will become.
I think you'd need to be quite cool to pull it off though.

ButterscotchWhip · 03/12/2020 10:24

Personally, I love it.

It came up recently for me as my friend couldn't quite bring herself to name her boy Axel for his first name, so she went for it as a middle name. I do think it's very strong - but that's a good thing. And it'll stand out against a sea of Stanleys and Finns and so on.

Melroses · 02/12/2020 20:31

Aksel?

Was high on my list as I have Swedish family and great uncle and great grandfather both called axel. But we had a girl!

I can't get past Axl Rose who is the only person with that name that I know - and he always said he chose it as an anagram of Oral Sex..

I couldn't call my baby that.

Headfellofftheangel · 02/12/2020 20:22

Was high on my list as I have Swedish family and great uncle and great grandfather both called axel. But we had a girl! She is named a name that is super common in Nordic countries, Eastern Europe and France and still people are like, WHAAAA?

jessstan1 · 02/12/2020 20:00

Lovely, especially if your son turns out to be an explorer and journeys to the centre of the world.

Or if he wears a kilt and dances around the stage whilst singing hard rock and heavy metal.

Other than that, no.

Whenwillow · 02/12/2020 19:36

😂😂 @FawnDrench
I think Axel is really cool and I wish I had been brave enough to use it for my son ♥️

WilheldivaHater · 02/12/2020 19:32

I love it! We used it for DS and often get positive comments about it.

Quercus3 · 02/12/2020 18:49

The Gruffalo illustrator is an Axel :)

RedDiamond · 02/12/2020 18:38

I like it!

FawnDrench · 02/12/2020 18:31

Not a name I'd use for any sweet child of mine...

JaneJeffer · 02/12/2020 13:20

I love it.

Spirael · 02/12/2020 13:18

"Got it memorised?"

There's a major character in the Kingdom Hearts (Disney/Square Enix) franchise called Axel, and the above is his catchphrase whenever he tells someone his name.

The series has sold 30 million copies, so there are going to be a few people who make that connection! Just in case that might be an issue for you.

MercyBodle · 02/12/2020 13:10

I like it.

YouKnowWhoo · 01/12/2020 23:20

You realise this is an established name, right?

See all these people! [/quote]
Didn’t know that, no! But it reminds me of poor old axl rose and I can’t see past that. He was on the circuit in San Diego years back and he was very washed up.

But I’ve just tripped down memory Lane googling him again. He was a bit of a fine thing ;) but no, it’s still not a name I’d like.

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 01/12/2020 22:57

I honestly thought you were having a laugh with this thread until I read the replies.

Oh my god no.

Dislike Axel, Max is nice, shame you can't use it.
