Hi, my baby is almost five weeks old and still no name. I have an appointment to register her in the morning.
Could I have opinions on the two names me and dh are stuck between please?
Dalia (this is a kurdish name, baby is half kurdish and I thought it was unusual and so sweet sounding)
Anaya an-eye-ah
Thanks for any help

Dalia

Lobsterquadrille2 · 02/12/2020 10:37

I know a Dalia and have never heard anyone pronounce her name incorrectly. It's lovely (as is she).

BucksFizzForBreakfast · 02/12/2020 10:35

I prefer Dalia too.

allhappeningatonce · 02/12/2020 10:30

I knew a Dalia & I doubt anyone pronounced it wrong!! I couldn't imagine it being pronounced any other way from reading it!! It's a lovely nod to her heritage as well

Pipapple · 02/12/2020 10:22

Dalia. My cousin has a Dalia and no one gets the pronounciation wrong.

BiggestBoyJaquise · 02/12/2020 10:21

Scott-Cheg

Chilldonaldchill · 02/12/2020 09:29

I think they are both nice but I prefer Dalia. I think the pronunciation is quite intuitive.
Anaya is nice but I know babies called Amara, Amaya, Anya, Anna, Annie... I think it merges with those and is less interesting.

KeeefBurtain · 02/12/2020 08:03

Dalia is my favourite of the two. I like Talia too.

Heh1991 · 02/12/2020 01:45

Anaya is pretty!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 01/12/2020 12:53

Dalia is really lovely.

festivebug · 01/12/2020 10:30

Anaya is beautiful!Smile

Dalia reminds me of the black Dahlia murder if I'm being honest.

MikeUniformMike · 01/12/2020 10:08

Of the two, Dalia, but if I saw it for the first time I'd probably say Dale-ya.

Dahlia might be a better spelling but because dahlias are pronounced dale-yas you will still get that issue.

Delia might be an alternative. No pronunciation or spelling issues, and a very pretty name.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 01/12/2020 10:00

I like Dalia - although I would have said it as Day-lia because of the single l. Would Dallia work?

florascotia2 · 01/12/2020 09:53

Another one saying Dalia is lovely. And congratulations.

ILoveStickers · 01/12/2020 07:04

Dalia is lovely, and it sounds like it's your favourite too.

MoreLikeThis · 01/12/2020 00:36

Both are lovely names. I very slightly prefer Dalia.
Congrats on your new baby 💐

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/12/2020 00:34

Dalia is pretty, elegant and not overused - but still nicely "fits in" with all the other -ia ending names that are popular at the moment.

As much as I like the floral name Dahlia; Dalia is lovely name in it's own right (from a different root) and I think many people would use the pronuncation you want - "Dah - lee -ah" seems more instinctively phonetic and internationally used.

Anaya is okay but feels a bit trendy to me - it's rapidly increased in popularity over the last 10 years in the UK (and doesn't seem as widely used in other countries as Dalia).

Luckymummy123 · 01/12/2020 00:33

I know of a little Anaya, hers is pronounced an-ei-ah though. Both names are beautiful, but I like Anaya slightly more.

Mavedrai · 01/12/2020 00:20

Dalia is a lovely name.

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2020 00:13

Dalia is very pretty.

LosersClub · 30/11/2020 23:25

Dahlia is gorgeous

PinGwyn · 30/11/2020 23:24

Dalia.

I'd pronounce it Dah-lia too and think it's a strong but pretty name.

baumwolle · 30/11/2020 23:23

Dalia is lovely

TheDaydreamBelievers · 30/11/2020 23:21

I would say both like you want them pronounced! Both beautiful names

daisypond · 30/11/2020 23:11

Anaya is the one I think people would pronounce correctly at first. It seemed obvious to me.

Dalia I would have said like the flower. But the correct way is nice. And people only need to be told once if they say it wrongly.

Both are nice names. Maybe Dalia is the one I like best..
