Tabitha or Vivienne

Always loved the name Vivienne but recently I've fallen in love with Tabitha and Bibi (bee-bee) as a nickname possibly at home. Not fussed on nicknames so it's not a deal breaker. Can take or leave them and open to variables.

Which do you prefer

Vivienne or Tabitha ?

I like Vivienne but only when it's pronounced viv-eee-en I hate Viv-e-anne

ButterscotchWhip · 03/12/2020 14:33

I like Tabitha. My friend has just named her baby Tabitha and they call her Tiggy, which I love.

Vivienne is elegant but somehow not as warm as Tabitha? Vivie is a cute nickname for a little girl.

ImaSababa · 02/12/2020 00:01

Vivienne by a mile.

Tabitha puts me in mind of a pale, lisping, rheumy-eyed posh girl. So twee, yet ungainly.

Bruce2 · 01/12/2020 21:50

@isadorapolly that's funny you think that. I agree with Bev, Val,, Phylis, Janet, Ethna etc I think of older ladies
Vivienne just always struck me as elegant but I can see why people put Viv in that category (which I actually don't hate the nn it's alright)

I have. Tabitha who is now at uni, she's Tabby and Tabs, she very much suits her name and so I'm biased and love it. Don't like Vivienne though.

isadorapolly · 01/12/2020 00:02

I really dislike Vivienne. Viv Confused

It’s in the same group of names as Val or Bev. Old fashioned but not in a good way. I don’t think it’s classic.

I love Tabitha, I am biased though as I have one ☺️

@Taliasometimes

My sister is a Tabitha shes in her 20's and no one has ever batted an eyelid.

I know you said you cant imagine it on a women in her 30's, but i worked with a lovely girl called Tabitha who was roughly 30 and it sounded classy and elegant on her, again no one thought twice.

Thanks for this. I think it's just where I'm from, I've honestly never met a Tabitha or heard of anyone who knows one...hence why it's hard to imagine that's all.

Still love both names

TheDaydreamBelievers · 29/11/2020 22:05

@Bruce2 either pronunciation!

Bruce2 · 29/11/2020 21:18

@NorbertMeubles

Vivienne is beautiful, Vivi for a nickname
Is that as in Vee-Vee or as in Vivvy

@TheDaydreamBelievers

I'm in scotland. I like both Tabitha (Tabby, Bibi) and Vivienne (Viv, Vivi)
That's so funny I'm Scottish too. Maybe that's why we both like the names and I love those nicknames

Still a real mix!

I wonder if the Vivien thing is regional. 50% saying hate it and other 50% saying it's classy and beautiful
For me I think elegant when I hear the name but I'm wondering if just different parts of UK associate it differently

Tabitha I understand it a marmite name and has cat connotations.

Hopefully it'll be a boy then I'll never have to decide between them both Smile

@olivetreemumtobe

I went to school with a Tabitha who told everyone to call her Taz. Completely puts me off the name.

How about Valentina?

No, unfortunately it's too exotic sounding for our surname

@Ellmau

Would you consider Viviana?
Thanks for suggestions but not keen on it x

Tabitha

Bruce2 · 29/11/2020 20:50

@donkir

I work in a nursery with the under 2s. We currently have a Vivienne and a Tabitha. We don't shorten Vivienne at all and neither do her parents although at home she has a mandarin name. We do shorten Tabitha though. Tabs, Tabby or one of the children calls her Taba.
That's really useful to know thank you x

Vivien(ne)
It's beautiful.

Tabitha is ok for a cat.

PoodleMoth · 29/11/2020 20:41

I've always loved Tabitha

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 29/11/2020 07:30

Love them both! People will say Viv.

garlictwist · 29/11/2020 06:34

Not keen on either but Tabitha if pushed. Vivienne is awful.
