heyy, in my last post i asked June Maureen or April Maureen. The first names will stay my favorite bit you all said in combination with Maureen it sounds to old. But i really want to honor my moms name. So do you know a name almost the same as Maureen, with the same letters and it looks a lot alike? Please help. A name that fits with June or maybe April

Juno as a nickname would be very cute, if you liked it :)

Amidone · 26/11/2020 11:28

I have a friend who gave Maureen as a middle name to her daughter, naming her after her own mum.
The name works fine as a middle name in my view.
Have you a first name in mind? Are still considering June or May?
I think a longer first name sounds nice with Maureen as a middle name, personally.

Eg
Annabelle Maureen
Amelia Maureen
Emily Maureen
Jessica Maureen
Anna Maureen
Elizabeth Maureen
Eleanor Maureen

I love June and definitely think you should stick with Maureen to honour your mum - changing it would not really be honouring her, in my opinion. I think it actually sounds very pretty and will come back at some point!

I liked a previous poster's suggestion of adding another name in there, but I am a fan of two middle names and gave two to each of my DDs.

FWIW it's worth my DD2 has two very unfashionable middle names, after mine and DH's mums: Linda and Margaret. She is nearly 4 and is very proud of sharing Gran and Grandma's names. :)

I know quite a few people will old fashioned middle names - I think it's fine! The only April I know is about 6 years old so I don't associate that with being old at all. Would you consider Juno instead of June? I love it and it has a much more modern feel.

Firebird83 · 26/11/2020 09:03

Just use Maureen

MikeUniformMike · 26/11/2020 09:00

Maureen in nicer than the first names you've chosen.

If you are honouring your mother then use Maureen, or use Máirín, which is the Irish spelling of Maureen

festivebug · 26/11/2020 08:18

Maree would be nice.

zigaziga · 26/11/2020 07:22

I would use Maureen.

Yes it’s very dated but why does a middle name need to “go” and what does it matter if it doesn’t? When do you seriously ever even tell anyone your middle name?

My DS’s class went runs comparing middle names at one point (I assume the girls from the class went “Rose... Rose... Rose ... Grace ... Rose ... May...”) and that was the first and last time that came up.

If she’s embarrassed she can say she doesn’t have one. Or more likely, children now won’t think of it as such an old person’s name.. I actually think the majority of very young children now won’t have heard of the name at all. Honestly if I ask my 4 year old what he thinks of the name Maureen it would probably be a shrug.

It’s a nice link to someone and I think you would possibly regret making it a different name just to be less ... Maureen. Particularly when the alternatives aren’t even that nice themselves.

HeronLanyon · 26/11/2020 06:59

I too would use her name rather than some alternative.
Wonder if your mum’s middle name could be used? My family seem to have used this for boys - all boys for generations have the same middle name much as I rail against the apparent sexism in girls not having the same tradition, I rather like it.
Or might her maiden name work as a middle name ? Personally not fond of surnames as names but some work Well as honorific middles ?

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/11/2020 06:36

My DDs mn is Christine after my mum. She loves it. It's different and she thinks it's really trendy! I never would have picked it had my mum not passed away before she was born. Just go with Maureen.

MercyBodle · 26/11/2020 02:27

Keep Maureen. There's nothing wrong with it except it's unfashionable at the moment - which I actually see as a plus! Not everyone said June Maureen or April Maureen is a problem on your other thread. Did you count how many people, like me, did not say that it was a problem? Both June and April make appealing, interesting, unexpected names with Maureen. (My favourite is April.)

My favourite Maureen-like alternative is the beautiful Morwenna.

I also like the idea of an extra middle if that works for you.
June Olivia Maureen
April Matilda Maureen
June Eliza Maureen
April Georgia Maureen
June Francesca Maureen
April Annie Maureen
June Alice Maureen
April Indigo Maureen

CuppaZa · 26/11/2020 01:40

I posted on your other thread. Honestly, if you want to honour your mum, use her name, Maureen, as a middle name. Don’t worry about what others think. It has meaning to you

Sherin18 · 26/11/2020 01:40

I’d just keep it as Maureen, middle names are rarely used

Heh1991 · 26/11/2020 01:35

Maria?

April Maria sounds particularly nice! It has the same meaning as Maureen too. X

Miip · 25/11/2020 22:36

Aura? Mayeen? Reene?

ZolaGrey · 25/11/2020 22:30

The amount of times a name gets said in its entirety are minimal, just use the names you like.

RoseMartha · 25/11/2020 22:00

June Maureen works well. June is a cute name.

Merename · 25/11/2020 21:57

I love Maureen too! I would use it for a first name.

Squeakerfoot · 25/11/2020 21:54

It sounds like in your family there's a special meaning to passing this name down and so I would try not to be swayed by comments if it's something you'd like to do.

However I don't understand why people are saying that choosing a different variant wouldn't be meaningful. It will have exactly the meaning you want to give it. In lots of families an initial in common can be a link to someone you want to honour. I share an initial with my grandfather and I know my parents chose my name for that reason. I don't have his name (or the feminized version) but it feels meaningful to me. I know other people who have been named different variants of relatives names in honour of them and it's enough for that to be explained by the parent for it to feel special.

Shortfeet · 25/11/2020 21:48

Maureen is a fab name

SleeplessWB · 25/11/2020 21:44

Does your mum actually like the name Maureen? My mum is Maureen and she hates it - I joked about calling my daughter after her and she said she would refuse to use it if I did as she thinks it is so awful.

CrazyCatMamma · 25/11/2020 21:44

Not quite what you asked but a girl I know is Laureen.

Hohofortherobbers · 25/11/2020 21:36

Maureen is OK, it's probably going to have a fashionable return at some point.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 25/11/2020 21:27

I agree with a pp to keep the name as it's meaningful to you and don't justify it to others. We all have different tastes in names and that's fine.
I share a middle name with my mother and I gave the same name to my first DD for her middle name and it is a lovely bond.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/11/2020 21:01

Keep Maureen, or skip it altogether. Picking a name with a tenuous link doesn't honour anyone, it just says "I wanted to honour you but...your name is SO HIDEOUS I obviously couldn't use it. So I've chosen this more acceptable name with the same first letter, and now I'm going to explain to people that it's meant to honour you".
