Using a friend of a friends baby name.

Okay so, my best friend who I’ve known since childhood used to work with someone who named their baby the same name as I want to name mine. I don’t know her personally, and have never met her my friend doesn’t see her very often and they live a long way away. They do catch up on the odd occasion there’s a group of them. In other words shes definitely closer to me than to them, and she literally never sees this child. Do you think this is an issue or no?

You’ll find it v hard to find a name that you don’t know someone with if you include friends of friends DC.

Go for it.

DefinitelyMaybeBaby · 22/11/2020 19:25

I'm pregnant with my third and between all my friends kids and all the friends my existing kids have I would have to call this one Moonbat to avoid not crossing over with someone!
Definitely no need to worry if you don't know her

Twizbe · 22/11/2020 15:52

I know 4 Sebastian's born in one summer - 2 the day after each other. Those two now also have a baby sister called Elodie.

None of those 4 families know each other - it's no big deal and given how little I post of social media I doubt they know now that they all picked the same name

Don't worry about it

Cam2020 · 22/11/2020 11:03

Go with it! You'd be hard pushed to find a name that no-one you know has some sort of connection to (unless going for something out there!).

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 22/11/2020 11:00

They absolutely have an idea of what they are doing: they provide content to plug the gap between children being named and official statistics being published. They explain their methodology on this page. They rank the number of hits each name receives on their site, so while it is a good indicator of the names that parents are considering this doesn’t necessarily translate to the names being used. They keep pretty quiet about this however and release some very official looking press releases which are picked up and reported widely with minimal interrogation of the data.

Aurora has risen sharply in popularity in the last ten years and I agree with you that it will probably climb further, but there would have to be an extra 2000+ Auroras born in one year for it to make the top ten.

No idea how reliable it is mind you but I’d have thought they have a vague idea what they’re doing

zigaziga · 21/11/2020 17:54

Oh gosh yes that’s fine. Bless you.
If she hears through your mutual friend that you have also named your daughter Aurora she wouldn’t have any logical reason to be annoyed whatsoever.

SuitedandBooted · 21/11/2020 17:48

It's a non-issue. Use the name.

Aurora is not that common, but it isn't a unique, one-in-a million name either. It's not a name the other couple have especially thought up just for their child.

You don't know them. Their child is a toddler. Stop over-thinking it.

abbie777 · 21/11/2020 17:10

I was concerned at first about the popularity, but there were something like 777 girls called Aurora in 2019, which I thought wasn’t that many, it’s less that 1000 isn’t it?

@Queenoftheashes

Aurora is the third most popular uk girl’s name so far this year so it’s not like you’re nicking something unique. And even if you were you have never met this person so who cares.
It isn’t. There’s no live record of that data. We’ll get the 2020 stats in Aug/Sep 2021. It was #70 in 2019, so moderately popular.

How could it possibly be an issue that someone you don’t know had a baby a few years ago with the same very popular name you’re thinking of giving yours? Of course it’s fine!!!

EmilySpinach · 21/11/2020 13:19

This is a total non-issue! It’s a moderately popular name and you’ve never even met the woman.

LooneyLovefood · 21/11/2020 11:59

It's a beautiful name and you should use it without thinking of any issues, as there aren't any!

For what it's worth, my DH has a group of friends who all see each fairly regularly, as a result so do the wives and children. Within the space of about a year, 3 of his friends named their child the same name. So we now have 3 little Sarah's (name changed) running round who will all likely end up in the same year at the same school - no one even bats an eyelid.

FluffyEggsontoast · 21/11/2020 11:57

Just wanted to say Aurora is a beautiful name
It's very sweet you're concerned you're obviously a very caring person but this is a non issue

@abbie777

MercyBodle · 21/11/2020 11:44

No issue. Use it.

Mashingthecompost · 21/11/2020 08:31

Aurora is a name that people use, so itnot like you're pinching a family name or something. Use it. :)

starfishmummy · 21/11/2020 08:28

This is a non- problem. I think your pregnancy hormones are playing up!

Standrewsschool · 21/11/2020 08:25

I used the same name as my then boss, who’s son was born a few months before mine. I never even gave it a second thought. This was over twenty years ago. The two boys have never met.

Oreservoir · 21/11/2020 08:22

Imo it wouldn't be an issue if it was your friends child.
Aurora is a beautiful name, also the French version Aurore which goes better with some surnames.

TotalBitch · 21/11/2020 08:18

Aurora is lovely. It's reasonably unusual but not so out there that if I knew one and a friend also named their baby Aurora I'd be Hmm or anything.

Totally fine. Go for it. If your friend comments in an unpleasant way, she is being a dick tbh.

abbie777 · 21/11/2020 07:32

It’s Aurora☺️

Littlepond · 21/11/2020 07:22

I suppose it might be a bit weird for the friend of a friend if the name is really really unusual but that isn’t really your problem! You aren’t friends with her and you don’t mix in the same circles so it is literally a non problem.
What’s the name? Smile

BikeRunSki · 21/11/2020 06:55

It’s not a big deal.
Use the name.

abbie777 · 21/11/2020 06:52

I’m pretty sure it’s no big deal, I’m just a people pleaser and don’t want to upset anyone😂 I’m sure I’m just over thinking it.
