Elara or Ellara

After spending months searching for the perfect baby name, I came across the name Elara and have fallen in love.

I know it's meant to be spelt Elara, but for some reason I think I prefer it with two L's

Just wondering what other people think?

I agree with Yoni. It has been around forever but it does seem to be yet another El name.

Lara, Lyra,... type names are so popular that she'll probably end up correcting people.

I think I prefer Elara, but both are fine. My dd is Lara, and I think Elara is pretty too.

I'm well aware of the origin of the name.

I said it sounds like another made up fluffy vowel-heavy girl's name - because it does. The name isn't popular enough for the origin to be common knowledge. On its own merits, it's a bland and fairly characterless word which sounds like someone just wanted to try and make up a more 'yoonique' answer to:

Alannah
Elora
Ellisha
Amara
Alina
Elowen

and on and on endlessly.

This name has been around since Ancient Greece, having its roots in mythology. From an Astronomy point of view, it’s the name of one of Jupiter’s moons - not made up in any sense!

I think Elara will get Ellie too. Eleanor frequently does and it doesn't have a double L.

Not trying to spell our child's name "weird to make it unique" and we are certainly not ignorant.

Thank you to all other helpful commenters. The reason I was thinking about the double L spelling, was that I thought it might be easier to shorten to Ellie (if she wishes to). Completely take on board the point about pronunciation seeming different if there are two Ls :)

I agree with the others that Elara is the better choice. It has the connections to the moon of Jupiter and the Greek connection. The double L could confuse people on how to pronounce it whereas Elara is clear.

It's a nice name and one I considered.

I'd assume ELL-ara at first look if two l's as opposed to El-AR-ah. I like Elara, no need for a funny spelling.

It’s supposed to be Elara.

Ellara looks like ELL-uh-ruh to me rather than el-ah-ra and it’s not half as nice a name.

I’d only go for it if you planned on spelling it correctly. I know a beautiful baby Elara and really like it.

I've never heard the name so my instinct is to pronounce Elara with the accent on the first a (el-LA-ra) and Ellara with the accent on the E. (ELL-uh-ruh) which is correct?
